David Wachman’s Requinto won the Group Two Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster on Friday afternoon.
Ridden by Wayne Lordan, the Dansili colt just held on by a short head from the fast-finishing Burwaaz. The winner had taken on his elders in the Nunthorpe Stakes on his last start but found the going tough.
Paul Smith, representing the winning owners, said: “He’s very ground dependant and Wayne gave him a fantastic ride. He got him in a beautiful position, settled him and he quickened well.
“The ground is crucial as we saw here, it went against him at York. We’ll maybe look at the Middle Park or even Abbaye now. It will depend on the ground but he deserves to take his chance. If he gets his conditions he’s going to be competitive against whoever he faces at five furlongs.”
Lordan added: “He’s very progressive and he jumped and travelled and really put his head down when I asked him.
“Five furlongs is his trip and fast ground is the key to him. At York he travelled for two and a half furlongs then couldn’t pick up on that ground.”
