Rob Heffernan and Fionnuala McCormack to lead Ireland at World Athletics in London

Athletics Ireland has announced its initial selections for the race walk and marathon for the World Athletics Championships in London from 4th-13th August.

Robert Heffernan of Togher will lead a strong team of 50km race walkers alongside Brendan Boyce (Letterkenny) and Leevale’s Alex Wright.

There is a full complement of men in the marathon with Mick Clohisey (Raheny Shamrock), Paul Pollock (Annadale Striders) and Seán Hehir (Rathfarnham WSAF) selected.

On the women’s team Fionnuala McCormack (Kilcoole) and Leevale’s Claire McCarthy are selected for the classic distance.

Ireland’s World Championships Marathon and 50km Walk Athletes.

Men’s 50km Walk: Alex Wright, Brendan Boyce, Robert Heffernan.

Men’s Marathon: Mick Clohisey, Paul Pollock, Seán Hehir.

Women’s Marathon: Fionnuala McCormack, Clare Gibbons McCarthy.
