The fourteen-time major winner has not played since August 2015.
Tiger Woods has confirmed that he will take part in next week’s PGA season-opening Safeway tournament, set to take place at the Silverado Country Club in Napa, California.
The California native has undergone successive back surgeries since last taking part in an event of any kind. World number 767 Woods was forced to sit out the entire 2015-16 season, with his last Major appearance at the Masters in April last year.
After winning the Ryder Cup as US vice-captain just last week, Woods is set to make it a fortnight to remember.
Swedish friend Jesper Parnevik spoke earlier this week about the sporting shape that Woods is in, noting that Tiger has been ‘hitting it great‘ and ‘flushing everything‘.
‘On the range at least, his trajectory and ball flight are like the Tiger we knew 15 years ago’. ‘Comebacks are never a sure thing, but something tells me his might be spectacular‘.
September saw the American state his hope to also take part in both the Turkish Airlines Open in November and the Bahamas-based Hero World Challenge in December.
Additionally, the Tiger Woods Invitational is set to take place early next week, with Woods himself aiming to play.
Let’s hope that this year’s comeback sees the return of the real Tiger, as, despite his off-course antics, something about seeing one of the all-time greats back and competing just adds an extra touch of excitement to the gentleman’s game.
