US star joins Mexican club

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican club Santos Laguna has signed American forward Herculez Gomez.

Club president Alejandro Irarragorri said Monday that Gomez, who played for the United States in the 2010 World Cup, will join the northern Mexican team for the upcoming Clausura season.

It will be the fourth Mexican team for Gomez, who is leaving Estudiantes of Guadalajara, and previously appeared with Puebla and Pachuca.

Prior to his move to Mexico he played with Los Angeles Galaxy, Colorado Rapids and Kansas City Wizards in Major League Soccer.

Santos Laguna reached the final of the Mexican Apertura playoff, losing 3-1 to UANL Tigres on Sunday, and 4-1 on aggregate over two legs.
