The main event on Day 2 of the 2019 Stena Line Dublin Horse Show, the Stablelab Stakes, saw American McLain Ward and Noche De Ronda break the Irish stranglehold on victories in the Main Arena.
The US combination collect the top prize of over €16,500, ahead of Denis Lynch with GC Chopin’s Bushi, who collected over €10,000 for the runner-up spot in the valuable class.
Three-time Olympic medallist Ward was full of praise for his willing partner, the mare Noche De Ronda, in the two-round competition:
“Ronda was fantastic, she’s been coming along really fantastic the last couple of months, and I thought she jumped beautifully. She really responded great to everything I asked.”
The American also admitted his liking for Tipperary-born Alan Wade’s course design, stating:
“I love Alan’s courses. For me he’s the best in the world – it makes sense to me and it’s a good test. It was a great day, some days are yours.”
Shane Breen and Ipswich Van Den Wolfsakker completed the top-three, with his double clear round.
Later in the Centenary Stakes – Battle of the Sexes, the female team of Laura Kraut, Emily Moffitt, Paola Amilibia and Amanda Derbyshire defeated the male team of Darragh Kenny, McLain Ward, World No. 1-ranked rider Steve Guerdat of Switzerland, and Bertram Allen.
