Aidan O’Brien to gallop his star performers for 2014 Flat season at Currragh on Sunday

THE 2014 Flat season swings into action at the Curragh this Sunday, 23rd March with the first of 18 races days scheduled for the County Kildare venue.

Afonso De Sousa heads the weights in the 100,000 euro Irish Lincolnshire and the Aidan O’Brien-trained four-year-old will face 20 rivals in the very competitive contest

Regulation is not long back from a stint in Dubai and his trainer is hopeful of a big run from the son of Danehill Dancer.   Pat Shanahan has had a really good start to his training career and the Co Kilkenny-based handler has an interesting contender in That’s Plenty in Sunday’s race. Local trainer Dermot Weld has left two (Stuccodor and Defining Year) in the race, while Shipyard is another home horse who is worth a mention. Trail Blaze (Kevin Ryan) and Lord Aeryn (Richard Fahey) are the two British trained challengers.

The Group Three Lodge Park Stud EBF Park Express Fillies Stakes has attracted 12 runners, including the Aidan O’Brien-trained Dance With Another.

Other notable entries are Euphrasia, Morga, Vote Often, Wannabe Better and Odeliz trained in Britain by Karl Burke.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien is likely to have some of his major star performers on show when they work on the track after racing, while a tribute to the riding career of Johnny Murtagh will take place during the afternoon.

The first race on Sunday commences at 2.10pm and the ground is currently Soft to Heavy
