Co. Cork jockey John Allen, who has been based at Ballarat in Australia for the past number of years, has won a second successive Tommy Corrigan Medal for leading jump jockey in Victoria and South Australia.
Votes are awarded on 2-1 basis by officiating stewards for the two best rides at each jumps racing meeting. Allen registered 12 votes to defeat Richard Cully by one.
Since moving to Australia the Corkman has won major races including in 2014 The Galleywood and Australian Hurdle on Gotta Take Care, the Grand National Steeplechase twice, on Wells in 2014 and on Regina Coeli in 2015. Allen has also ridden successfully on the flat, winning the South Australian Derby at Morphettville Racecourse, Adelaide, the past two seasons with Volatile Mix (2017) and Howard Be Thy Name (2016).
