The Galway racing festival is the highlight of the social racing calendar, we have the start times for the races on all the days including Ladies day on Thursday.
The famous seven days Summer Races returns on the 25th July, 2016 with top racing, fabulous fashion,delectable foods and an electric atmosphere with an infectious sense of fun. The Galway Races is certainly a festival for everyone.
The Festival runs for seven consecutive days starting from the last Monday in July each year. Highlights of the Summer Festival include Ladies Day, Friday’s Fair Lady, Ladbrokes Day, and Family Day including our very popular Mad Hatters Competition. Over 140,000 people attended the Summer Festival Meeting in 2015 where betting turnover reached great heights once again.
The total prize fund for the fifty-two sponsored races reached an impressive €1.8 million. If you fancy a flutter while at the course, there are various options for placing a bet at the Galway Races; the Tote, on-course betting shops and on-course bookmakers. Turnstiles will open each day at approximately two hours before the first race.
Monday – Start time 5:15pm
The opening day sets the tone with the exciting Connacht Hotel (Q.R) Handicap followed by an ‘Evening with the Sports Stars’.
Tuesday – Start time 5:15pm
The jewel in the crown of the second day of the festival is the COLM QUINN BMW Mile Handicap with a highly desirable prize fund of €120,000.
Wednesday – Start time 3pm
Wednesday’s must be-at event is the traditional tote.com Galway Plate run over a distance of 2 miles 6 furlongs with an exciting prize fund of €220,000
Thursday – Start time 1:50pm – Ladies Day
Thursday is glamorous ‘Ladies Day’, and Galway hosts the richest National Hunt race to be staged in Ireland – the €300,000 ‘Galway Guinness Hurdle Handicap’.
Friday – Start time 5:10pm
The undoubted highlights of the final evening of the Summer Festival are the Guinness Handicap that starts at 5.10pm followed by the Fair Lady Competition.
Saturday – Start time 2:40pm
Day, the red letter race on Saturday is the Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle with the first race at 2:40pm.
Sunday – Start time 2:15pm
The final day of the Summer Festival Meeting sees the hugely popular Mad Hatters Competition as part of the Family Day. The first race is at 2.15pm.
