Joncol has been ruled out of action for the rest of the season after picking up a tendon injury in the Lexus Chase last month.
Paul Nolan’s stable star finished seventh behind Synchronised at Leopardstown and his trainer said today: “It’s a sickener for the yard but when the swelling went down we had him scanned and it showed up a 10 per cent hole in his near hind [left rear] tendon.
“He didn’t travel early on in the Lexus so it must have happened in the early stages as to jump and travel so badly throughout the Lexus just wasn’t him.”
“He won’t be running again this season but with a bit of luck we will see him racing again, hopefully next season in the likes of the John Durkan and Lexus again.”
Joncol had been a 40-1 outsider for the Gold Cup at Cheltenham in March.
