Listowel Race Company has officially opened their newly-constructed €1.3 million dining and hospitality facility.
The new building is a modern contemporary design which both complements and enhances the overall look of the racecourse facilities. It replaces the former snack bar, incorporating the new Old Weir Food Hall on the ground floor and The Riverside Bar on the upper level with an adjacent viewing area overlooking the parade ring.
Built by Monami Construction Ltd., a Galway-based firm with a local office in Listowel, the new building has been part-financed by Horse Racing Ireland through its Racecourse Capital Development Scheme, which provided funding of over €600,000. Construction began in January and was completed ahead of schedule in mid-July.
The 158th harvest racing festival will take place at Listowel over 7 days from Sunday 11th to Saturday 17th of September. Racing highlights include the €175,000 Guinness Kerry National Handicap Steeplechase (Grade A) Chase on Wednesday 14th; the €55,000 Guinness Handicap Hurdle on Thursday 15th and the Listowel Races Supporters Club Sponsored Race “The Slán Abhaile” on Saturday 17th September.
Fashionable racegoers of all ages can also look forward to three days of Best Dressed competitions, including dedicated categories for gentlemen, ladies, younger racegoers, vintage lovers, couples and NEW this year – the most stylish Selfie! There will also be a complimentary double decker bus taking ladies to the racecourse from the centre of Listowel town on the McElligotts Honda Ladies Day on Friday 16th of September.
Admission is only €20 each day/OAP/Students: €12 and children under 12 have free admission to the race course, when accompanied by an adult.
