Newest but favored G1 horse at Gulfstream

At the stretch of Gulfstream again will be the 2019 Pegasus World Cup–the world’s richest horse racing debuting an added Turf Invitation for this year’s first championship series.

This is a one-and-one-eight mile run of Grade 1 for aged four and older thoroughbred horses with a 16 million dollar purse at stake for the race winner hosted by Frank Stornach of the Stornach Group who is the brains of this entire historical race event in the horses’ industry.

Stornach announced the original idea at the Thoroughbred Owners Conference at Gulfstream Park in 2016 that lead to a yet another successful Pegasus World Cup in 2017 crowning the horse of the year Arrogate after a commanding performance. The idea was to commence this race in every January of the year so that it would not affect the schedule of horse training programs for the Breeder’s Cup Classic and the Dubai World Cup.

This also fits perfectly in the calendar as potential stallion prospects such as the California Chrome showed up last year. It took place just before the Breeding season so stallion prospects are still able to take their place in the race.

In this third year, Pegasus race gulfstream will be welcoming a new rockstar on track who has been favorable because of its crazy race winnings resume—Accelerate.

Accelerate, a Kentucky-bred son of Looking At Lucky out of the Awesome Again mare Issues is trained by John Sadler and has never been to the track in Florida but made a huge impact on his name when he defeated Pegasus first victor Arrogate in the 2017 San Diego Handicap. This rare horse has shown quite an outstanding performance in its every race instead of heading to the breeding shed with his six-year-old debut with a 10-win race in twenty-two tries.

It was at the Breeders’ Cup Classic when Accelerate won and led at the top of the stretch that held off Gunnevera by a length and strengthens his bid for the Horse of the Year title over Justify who happens to be a renowned Triple Crown winner.

Accelerate made a sweeping move leaving Justify a far turn behind at Churchill which gave Sandler his first win ever after 30 years and many tries.

Off the board were Mckinzie and West Coast–Bob Baffert’s duo who finished 7th and 12th after putting up a challenge to Accelerate. Word on the street that Mckinzie may or may not be at the Pegasus World Cup to keep up with the track stars.

He also had a 4-straight win including Pacific Classic in August and at the Breeders Cup Classic in November covering a 1 and quarter mile over a fast track 2:02.93.  Accelerate won five Grade One races and three for four at this distance. He won by 12.5 lengths at Del Mar earlier this season. Accelerate has compiled a 7-6-1-0 record in 2018.

Clearly, this record is what made him a crowd favorite because of what this horse accomplished and now proudly earned $5,792,480 with all his efforts.

Now with a recorded Odd 3/2 before City of Light’s 4/1 at, this race is one to be looked forward to on January 26. Accelerate has to keep up with his speed to prosper over 40% of the time to make a profitable play.

The challenge with City will surely keep the audience up on their feet knowing Accelerate was defeated in the previous Oaklawn Handicap in April last year with a tight neck-to-neck race at the same distance.
