Top class sport in Limerick this weekend

Sports fans across the country are today being encouraged to make a break for it to Limerick this weekend for one of the most action packed sporting gatherings of the year.


Limerick is set to become a sporting hub this weekend at it prepares to host two major sporting events as part of The Gathering 2013. First off is the highly anticipated clash between Ireland and pre-tournament favourites Australia in the Rugby League World Cup, kicking off at 8pm, Saturday the 9th of November, in Thomond Park Stadium.


The home of Munster rugby, Thomond Park will host the only World Cup match to be held in Ireland, in front of an expected global TV audience of over 20 million viewers. In total, the 2013 Rugby League World Cup tournament will be contested by fourteen teams.


After some world class rugby with a difference, sporting fans can then make the most of their sporting weekend away to Limerick by attending The Gathering National Hunt Meeting at Limerick Racecourse on Sunday the 10th of November.  The first race will begin just after 1pm with each race themed around the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. Attendees will get to soak up the atmosphere of seven national race hunt meetings with a special combo admission package which includes entry to the rugby match the day before.


At just €25, the special combo admission ticket allows entry to the match on Saturdayand a discounted ticket price of €10 to the races the following day. Tickets are available to purchase on or from and nationwide outlets. Alternatively, those who produce their rugby match ticket on the day or those wearing Rugby League Club colours will also gain admission to Limerick Racecourse for just €10.
