Video – The Curragh starts 2017 racing this weekend – Look at what to expect

The latest re-development news filmed on our test race day ahead of the Opening Weekend of the 2017 racing season at the Curragh on 13th & 14th May

Highlights during the season include the Tattersalls Irish Guineas Festival on 27th and 28th May, Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Festival from Friday 30th June to Sunday 2nd July 2017, Darley Irish Oaks on 15th July and day two of Longines Irish Champions Weekend on the 10th September.

The Curragh then opened its doors for the first time this year in preparation for the season, when they staged a test race day to fulfil Turf Club licencing requirements on Thursday 4th May. Those in attendance included Turf Club officials, Vets, Doctors, Farriers and other racing personnel, while representatives from the Trainers, Jockeys, Stable Staff and Owners Associations were also in attendance.

Trainers Dermot Weld and Aidan O’Brien, Jockey Pat Smullen, Historian Jim Kavanagh, Tony Lenehan Kildare Failte and Peter Carey Kildare Co Council speak (VIDEO BELOW) about the international importance of the Curragh and the exciting journey the racecourse is on.
