LONDON (AP) — Saracens could soon provide England with the bulk of its backline after signing winger Chris Ashton from Northampton on a long-term contract.
The English champions say on Thursday that Ashton, who has scored 15 tries in 18 tests for England, will join the London club from the start of next season.
Saracens’ back division already includes flyhalves Charlie Hodgson and Owen Farrell and center Brad Barritt, all of whom have been widely tipped to start for England in its opening matches in the upcoming Six Nations.
Ashton has been a prolific tryscorer for Northampton following his cross-code switch from rugby league team Wigan Warriors in 2007, scoring 95 tries in 105 games to establish himself as a regular with England.
