Ireland name 31 man squad for the Rugby World Cup

There have been a few big shocks in the naming the of the 31 squad of Irish players that will make the plane to Japan.

The two big shocks are Devin Toner and Kieran Marmion not making the cut, both players look certainties in the eyes of many fans, but the newly qualified South African lock Jean Kleyn has edged out Toner and Leinster 9 Luke McGrath has been chosen ahead of Connacht’s Marmion.

Jack Carthy who was man of the match against Wales on Saturday has cemented his place as the third choice behind the injury-prone Carberry and Sexton.

Will Addison and Dave Kearney who didnt do enough on Saturday will also not be travelling and Lions player Jack McGrath is also going to miss out, McGrath who recently signed a deal to play with Ulster is not at 100% but hopefully a season of starting play with see him back in the mix next year.

Likely Ireland World Cup squad:
