Olympic Rugby Sevens Quarter Final Draw & Start times – New Zealand scrape in

New Zealand avoided a shock exit at the pool stage of Rio Olympics thanks to Fiji’s 24-19 win over the USA, we have the quarter-final draw and start times.

The All-Blacks who were defeated earlier in the day by Great Britain needed Fiji to win by five points or more to ensure their passage to the quarter final stage of the competition. The Fijians coached by Ben Ryan just hit the required five point winning margin in the final game of the thrilling pool stages, providing a lifeline for New Zealand and denying the USA a quarter final spot.

It means that New Zealand despite losing to Japan and Great Britain will take on Fiji this evening at the Deodoro Stadium. Great Britain who won all three group games will face Argentina in the first round of the knockout stages.

South Africa will play Australia, while France take on surprise packages Japan- who recorded wins over New Zealand and Kenya in the pool stages.

Olympic 7s quarter-finals:

Fiji v New Zealand [9pm Irish time today]
