Rugby World Cup: A look at who the finalists could be according to the odds

The World Cup is nearing ever so close and Joe Schmidt naming his squad on Monday has a wet the appetite further. With that in mind let’s take a look at who the finalists could be according to the betting odds.

The bookmakers predict that it will be a South Africa v New Zealand final and the odds available on this are currently 10/3 at the time of writing. Ireland to face New Zealand is next in the betting at 5/1. This would have to be considered if as expected Ireland get out of the pool. The bookmakers say that the likelihood of a Wales final with New Zealand is 17/2. Eddie Jones’ England to meet the All-Blacks in the final is currently at odds of 10/1, these look very good odds going on both teams current form.

An England v South Africa Final is also at 10/1. Australia to face old foes New Zealand in the final is at 14/1. If you fancy an all Six Nations final well the current odds on teams are the following, England v Ireland 16/1, England v Wales 16/1, Wales v Ireland 40/1. Wales to meet South Africa in the showpiece is 18/1, while Wales to meet Australia in the final is at odds of 20/1.

If you fancy two outsiders bets at big prices then New Zealand v France at 33/1 and New Zealand v Argentina also at 33/1 could be considered.

If I was a betting man it is hard to look past New Zealand winning the tournament outright. But I would go with a New Zealand v England final at odds of 10/1 going on form at the moment.

Prediction: England v New Zealand (10/1)
