Aston Villa v Liverpool Preview, betting, and probable starting teams with both sides looking to maintain their perfect starts.
Aston Villa v Liverpool Preview
Both sides come into this game with two wins from two. Aston Villa is a much different side compared to last season with four new signings in the hope of avoiding a relegation battle this time around. Villa stayed up last season from a win against West Ham on the final day of the season. The signings of Martinez, Cash, and Konsa have been smart additions to their defense and are the only side this season to have not conceded a goal. New attacking threats of Traore and Watkins will help them going forward in the hopes of taking the pressure off Villa star Grealish, a man who was relied on far too much last season for goals.
Villa is predicted to go with the 4-3-3 formation that they’ve played with most frequently over the last two seasons. With how well Villa has played in their last two games I see Dean Smith keeping the same eleven that has served him well thus far.
Current champions Liverpool will be looking to mount the pressure on rivals Manchester City and open an early gap between the two sides. This coming after Cities 5-2 defeat to Leicester City last weekend. Jurgen Klopp’s side has opted not to spend big this summer and expand their squad like so many of their contenders this season. The one signing made was Thiago from Bayern Munich which will give them an extra option in an already diverse midfield. Liverpool will be expected to line out in their trademark 4-3-3 formation that has seen them terrorise teams for the last three seasons. Their starting eleven will presumably be unchanged with the back four and front three picking itself. The only possible change could be captain Henderson returning from a knock to replace one of the midfield three. A win here would put Liverpool top of the table.
Predicted result Aston Villa 1- 3 Liverpool
I predict a long sided match. Liverpool will press high and pen Villa back in their own half as they’ve done too much stronger sides than Villa. Villas’ main threats will come on the counterattack either from Grealish or Watkins or from a free-kick with dangerous specialists Hourihane or Luiz. However, with how strong Liverpool’s front three are of Salah, Mane, and Firmino it’s only a matter of time before the first goal goes in. I fear once this happens Liverpool will get in their flow; I fear the floodgates will open and Liverpool will dominate. I expect a comfortable Liverpool win.
