Lampard and his Chelsea side have had a frustrating start to the season. His side have spent over 200 million pounds this summer as one of Europe’s biggest spenders.
Signings such as Werner, Havartz, Silva, Mendy and Chilwell have helped improve both Attacking and Defensive areas.
However, despite scoring plenty of goals and playing some exciting football a lot of individual errors have crept in.
With Chilwell starting the season injured and Mendy and Silva finding their feet, Chelsea have conceded too many goals for Lampard’s liking.
Simple errors cost Chelsea vital points as they drew 3-3 with Southampton and West Brom and losing to Liverpool.
In a bid to restore some confidence in the backline Lampard made some tactical tweaks during the week against Manchester United and Saville.
Opting for the 4-2-3-1 and 5-4-1 formations to give his team some defensive cover. This proved successful as Chelsea drew 0-0 with Saville and Utd to keep two clean sheets.
Confidence has grown in the Chelsea side from these results as Mendy and Silva displayed man of the match performances.
Lampard will use these results as a template to build on and may prioritise clean sheets in the upcoming matches.
