Europa League: Martial penalty seals 1-0 win in Belgrade for United

Partizan Belgrade 0 Manchester United 1

Manchester United came away from Belgrade on Thursday evening with all three points after they had to knuckle down to get a 1-0 win. The all important goal of the game came from the penalty spot by Anthony Martial. The wins now sees United top the group ahead of Dutch side AZ Alkmaar. Many Betolimp customers were very happy with the result

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s charge made a bright start to the game, they had the first two chances. These chances arose to Brandon Williams, his header just going wide of the post. Jesse Lingard also had a chance but his effort hit the post. Belgrade had a massive chance of their own when Umar Sadiq hit the crossbar from around 25 yards, they followed up with some good play from Takuma Asano who drove his shot narrowly wide.

However, Partizan were dealt a massive blow just before the break as they gave away a penalty. Brandon Williams was fouled by Nemanja Miletic and Martial stepped up to send the Stojkovic the wrong way. However, Belgrade came out for the second half with a pep in their step and they should have been level. Bebras Natcho had a free kick, which went narrowly wide. Sergio Romero was then forced into action to save from Soumah. But still, Betolimp ZA were never really worried Manchester United would lose.

Partizan could have had to penalties in the game but the referee said no to both midway through the second period. The pressure was for sure building on United as the home side were throwing everyone forward looking for that vital goal to level proceedings. Romero was called into action yet again on 83 minutes when Asano’s close range header was kept out. However, United held on for the win which takes some of the pressure of Solksjaer.
