RIP former St Pat’s chairman Tommy Cummins

The death has taken place following an illness of former St Patrick’s Athletic Chairman and Board Member Tommy Cummins.

A statement on Friday evening from the F.A.I said:

“It is with great regret that the Football Association of Ireland learned today of the death of Tommy Cummins who passed away following an illness.

Tommy, aged 83, was an Honorary Life Member of the Football Association of Ireland. He served as chairman and board member of St Patrick’s Athletic for many years.

FAI CEO John Delaney said: “I was deeply saddened to hear of Tommy’s passing. He was a great family friend and to my father Joe and mother Joan especially.

“Tommy truly was a genuine football person who had a real love of St Patrick’s Athletic and the Republic of Ireland football team. I pass on my sincerest sympathies to his family.”

FAI President Paddy McCaul said: “Tommy was a great football man. He was recognised for his contribution to football and he is a great loss not just to his family but to the game in Ireland. He’ll be sadly

The official St Pats website and Twitter account also included the club’s condolences to the family ,on learning of his death:

“It is with sadness today that St Patrick’s Athletic FC have learned of the passing of one of our Honorary Life Vice Presidents of the Club, Tommy Cummins.

Tommy had previously held the role as Chairman of St Patrick’s Athletic as well as an Honorary Life Vice President of the FAI.

He was a much loved figure in the Club and all of the staff, players and management wish to extend our deepest sympathy to all of his family”.

Funeral arrangements are as follows:

Funeral Mass Saturday 10.00am. His remains will
then be taken to Esker Cemetary for burial.
