Brazil meet Mexico in their 2nd game of this year’s World Cup tonight. Both teams will be hoping to win this one and to secure their place in the last 16. Kick-off is at 8.00 from the Estadio Castelao, Fortaleza. The home nation will be expecting The Selecao to get past the Mexicans.
Brazil won their opening group game with a 3-1 victory over Croatia despite conceding the opening goal. Neymar put the Brazilians level before a dubious penalty was awarded which the Barcelona attacker converted. Oscar sealed the victory with a late strike. Mexico beat Cameroon in their opening encounter 1-0 despite 2 Giovanni Dos Santos goals being controversially disallowed. Oribe Peralta scored the only goal of the game.
The 22 year old got his World Cup off to a near perfect start scoring 2 goals and the victory over Croatia. With the poor performances of Hulk Brazil seem even more dependent on the former Santos attacker. Brazil will hope that he does not pick up another yellow which would rule him out of their next group game. Many feel Neymar was lucky not to be sent off. If Brazil can get the ball to him in dangerous areas it may prove disastrous for this Mexican defence.
Giovani Dos Santos
Dos Santos is Brazilian born and it may be an emotional encounter for the former Barcelona player tonight. Dos Santos impressed for Mexico in their opening encounter with his dribbling ability a constant threat for the Cameroon defence. He should have been on the score sheet twice but both goals were disallowed for dubious off side calls.
Starting team news
Brazil went with the team below in their opener. Hulk is left out with Chelsea midfielder Ramires coming into replace Zenit winger.
Brazil (4-2-3-1): Cesar; Alves, Luiz, Silva, Marcelo; Gustavo, Paulinho; Ramires, Oscar, Neymar; Fred.
Mexico are expected to go with a similar line up in this encounter. Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is likely to remain on the bench.
Mexico ( 5-3-2): Ochoa; Aguilar, Moreno, Marquez, Rodriguez, Layun; Guardado, Vazquez, Herrera; Dos Santos, Peralta
Brazil will be hoping for a better performance and have brought in Ramires to protect Dani Alves on the right side. Much will depend on Neymar and Oscar if both players are on top of their game Brazil should ease past the Mexican team. With Mexico playing a 3-5-2 to may try to keep a lot of possession to frustrate the Brazilian team. I expect to Brazil to win this one and maybe to keep their first clean sheet on a score line of 3-0. Neymar to score and Brazil to win is 10/11 with Boylesports in what looks an appealing bet.
