Cork City have announced the signing of Portsmouth forward Dan Smith on loan until July. Smith has indeed received clearance and is likely to feature on Monday night in the Airtricity League.
John Caulfied’s charges have lost their first two game sir the league and haven’t scored yet. They lost out to St Pat’s losing 1-0, while they also lost to Waterford at Turners Cross losing 2-0.
Speaking about signing for the club Smith said to RTE said
The intensity of training was great, and the lads are really good players, he continued “It was hard work to be honest! I maybe need to work on my fitness, but I thought I did well and I am looking forward to maybe getting some game time. I am coming over to get games and to get goals, experience it over here and hopefully do well. I win a lot of headers, hold the ball up reasonably well, run the lines, run in behind and score a few goals as well, so hopefully I can do that here.”
John Caulfield also commented on the signing of Smith saying that he was very happy and he a very good touch and is a good finisher. He said We are very happy; he comes highly recommended from Portsmouth. He is a big strong lad, with a very good touch and he looks like a good finisher.”
Smith will come into the squad after Matthew Gillam another loan signing from the club is out injured with a hamstring injury. It is very disappointing for Matthew; he pulled his hamstring and will be out for eight to weeks, so it is great to get Dan in to give us another option because we need options in the attacking area”.
Cork City travel to Sligo Rovers on Monday looking for the first win of the new league season.
