Pochettino may quit before he got sacked as it had appeared as far back as July that he did not feel he was actually the manager a Tottenham.
He said: “Sell, buy players, sign contract, not sign contract. I think it is not in my hands, it is in the club’s hands and Daniel Levy.
“The club needs to change my title and description. Of course I am the boss deciding the strategic play but in another area I don’t know. Today I feel like I am the coach.”
Pochettino had reached the Champions Leauge final last season but with Spurs down in 14th position the club made the change and have now brought in Jose Mourinho as the new coach.
“We were extremely reluctant to make this change. It is not a decision the board has taken lightly, nor in haste,” said Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
“Regrettably domestic results at the end of last season and beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing.
“It falls on the board to make the difficult decisions – this one made more so given the many memorable moments we have had with Mauricio and his coaching staff – but we do so in the club’s best interests.”
With Manchester United not doing much better than Tottenham surly Ole Gunnar Solskjær is danger of getting the sack as well and with Pochettino out of a job its no surprise that he has been backed from 5/2 to 11/10 with Bet365.
Massimiliano Allegri is 5/1 with Brendan Rodgers 8/1 and they are the only other two people in singles figures to get the job as the next manchester united manager, which would indicate that its something that will be happening sooner rather than later.
