Republic of Ireland international Ciaran Clark has signed a new five year deal with Aston Villa.
The 25 year old capped 11 times by Ireland, has ascended through the youth system at Villa Park to become an integral part of the Premier league team’s first team squad, making 116 League appearances since his debut in 2009.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to sign a new contract. I’ve been at Villa since I was a kid and I want to continue to play for this fantastic football club. The English born defender explained
“Everyone is looking forward to the new season and I’m delighted to be going into the opening game on Saturday knowing my long term future has been sorted.”
Villa manager Tim Sherwood added;
“It’s great news. Ciaran wears his heart on his sleeve. You know what you are going to get from Ciaran. He gives everything for the cause and that’s all you can ask for as a manager.”
Elsewhere, Micah Richards has been named as Aston Villa’s on field captain for the 2015/2016 season.
The former England defender only joined the club in July, but has skippered the side in a number of pre-season games, and he has now been confirmed as the team captain going forward into the new campaign.
While Richards will captain the team on the field, long serving forward Gabby Agbonlahor has been announced as the club captain by manager Tim Sherwood.
“Gabby will be club captain. He knows this club inside out and will help the young foreign boys who have come over to a different country to settle in.” Sherwood added.
