Tottenham have completed the signing of Ryan Nelson from Blackburn Rovers.
The New Zealander, who has 45 caps for his country, was released by Steve Kean’ Rovers after both sides agreed to terminate his contract.
Spurs were in need of a central defender after Sebastien Bassong joined Wolves on loan on transfer deadline day.
The 34 year old has been injured since August and only has one league appearance this term.
Spurs assistant manager Kevin Bond is confident the former Blackburn captain will be fit enough to make Tottenham’s squad for their trip to Liverpool on Monday night.
Bond said, “He is fit and eligible to play on Monday. I’ve just had a cup of tea with him in the canteen. He is looking forward to the challenge.”
Nelson began his career at Christchurch United before moving to D.C. United in 2001. The New Zealander joined Blackburn on a free transfer in January 2005 and made over 200 appearances for the club.
