Recent transfer developments surrounding Andy Carroll have taken pace and it now appears that he’s on course to swap Liverpool for the Sam Allardyce’s West Ham this summer.
West Ham’s chairman, David Gold, took to twitter last night in claiming that he looks set to land the Liverpool striker: “The chances of AC [Andy Carroll] joining West Ham has risen from 50/50 to 75/25 in the last few hours. Will keep u posted. [sic]”
It’s understood that the two clubs have come to an agreement regarding Carroll’s transfer fee but his huge wage demands of approximately £100,000 per week have proven to be a major stumbling block. Given David Gold’s tweet last night (Tuesday) it would appear that these issue have been ironed out.
Carroll scored seven goals for The Hammers last season following his loan move from Liverpool and Sam Allardyce will be keen to see him return to form following his tumultuous stay at Anfield. Any chance of him staying at the Merseyside club were very unlikely as his style of play doesn’t suit Brendan Rodger’s fluid, agile set up.
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler would like to see the 24 year old return but doesn’t think he’d get much game time under Rodgers: “I think with Andy Carroll, when he first came, he tried to play to the price tag.
“That sounds a little bit silly but he was trying to drop off, beat men and do everything you would expect from a £35 million striker.
“He looked a much better player when he got to the nitty gritty. When he used his body and was a handful. No disrespect but, when he plays like a big lump and uses his elbows, he looks much better.
“I think Brendan Rodgers is the man to answer that one. Would I like to see him there? I think Liverpool need as many numbers in the squad as they can. The squad will probably be better with Carroll in it but I wouldn’t say he would play many games.”
There were also rumours circulating that Carroll might return to one of his other former clubs, Newcastle, but considering David Gold’s latest tweet and the prospect of the Tyneside club signing Darren Bent looking more likely is seems that Carroll’s destined for the maroon and blue of West Ham.
