Tottenham Hotspur get result against Aston Villa

Goals from Andros Townsend and Roberto Soldado helped Tottenham to beat Aston Villa to move fifth in the league.

Spurs took the lead when Townsend’s cross was missed by Soldado and Lewis Holtby and went past keeper Brad Guzan.

Only two smart saves by Guzan from the lively Townsend and Paulinho stopped Spurs doubling their lead.

Substitute Christian Benteke’s arrival gave Villa fresh impetus but Spurs scored again when Soldado fired in after a slick passing move.

England’s newest star Andros Townsend, who scored Tottenham’s opening goal: “It’s been one of the best few weeks of my life. The main thing was getting back to winning ways after the defeat by West Ham. We didn’t have the best of first halves as Aston Villa defended very well.

“My goal was a cross. I’m not going to take credit for it but it put us on the way to a great three points.

“The main thing for me now is to keep my feet on the ground and not to get too carried away.”

Tottenham midfielder Sandro on his side’s performance at Villa Park: “It was very good. After losing against West Ham, everyone had their heads down. It was a hard game and we have to enjoy this moment.”

On his first Premier League start since January after injury: “I feel very good coming to the field today, as I was out for a very long time. I have to enjoy this time, as it was very hard for me to get back playing again.”

Villa’s starting XI: Guzan, Bacuna, Vlaar, Clark, El Ahmadi, Westwood, Luna, Delph, Weimann, Agbonlahor, Kozak

Tottenham’s starting XI: Lloris, Walker, Chiriches, Dawson, Vertonghen, Paulinho, Sandro, Townsend, Holtby, Sigurdsson, Soldado.
