Transfer News – James McCarthy on Crystal Palace radar

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew is hopeful of securing a deal for Everton and Irish international James McCarthy before the deadline according to The Mirror. Scottish Champions Celtic and Championship Newcastle are also said to be interested in securing McCarthy.

The Republic of Ireland international is currently weighing up his options as Everton boss Ronald Koeman is currently favouring Gareth Barry and Idrissa Gueye ahead of him in the starting 11. The Mirror are reporting that McCarthy wants his way out of Goodison Park after he fell out of favour under the new management.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United are rumoured to be readying a £20 million for the 26 year old, but Palace are hopeful that the central midfielder will snub their advances for a move to the South London club.

Scottish Champions, Celtic are also said to be keeping an eye on proceedings and could make a late raid for the former Wigan Athletic player.

McCarthy who was born in Glasgow has played with Hamilton in 2006 where he scored 13 goals in 95 appearances, before moving to Wigan where he played 120 games scoring 7 goals for the Lattics. He has been at Goodison Park since 2013, where he has made over 90 appearances for the club. It remains to be seen if he will remain at the club.
