A goal from substitute Hal Robson-Kanu secured all three points in a 2-1 win over Slovakia and give Wales the perfect result.
Gareth Bale’s 10th minute strike was cancelled out by Ondrej Duda’s second-half goal, before Robson Kanu was sprung by the bench by Chris Coleman the victory.
Bale gave Wales the lead thanks to a free kick, with awful positioning from the keeper seeing Bale curl the ball right of centre of the goal. And while Martin Škrtel could very well have been sent off, Duda who was brought on and with his first touch he dragged his effort low into the near right corner.
It set the stage for Robson-Kanu, who is without a club, was put through by Aaron Ramsey before he fired home to the joy of the Welsh support.
It only took 58 years of waiting for Wales but they have secured a win in their first game back.
