RTE to broadcast champions league for next three years

RTE have secured rights for showing first choice champions league games for the next three years. The games will be all on Tuesday nights and will commence from next season.

The deal will also see RTE show matches right up to the 2022 Fifa World Cup. Ryle Nugent who is the current head of RTE Sport but will be leaving the role in the coming weeks said ‘’ This a truly positive result for RTE, the Irish audience and the public service broadcasting’’. Nugent went on further to say ‘’To secure the UEFA Champions League first choice games on Tuesday nights for next three seasons means that Irish audiences will continue to have free to air access to the world’s leading club competition’’.

RTE will show this year’s world cup live from Russia, while they will also show Irish European qualifiers for 2020 and World Cup qualifiers in 2022. RTE will show this year’s Champions League final on the 26th of May between Liverpool and Real Madrid in what also promises to be thrilling encounter.
