Marcelo Bielsa’s men are looking in trouble near the relegation zone as they travel to Brighton this weekend in the Premier League

Brighton v Leeds United will kick off at 17:30 on Saturday 27th November in the American Express Community Stadium. Referee Craig Pawson will take charge of the tie.

The match will also be shown live on Sky Sports Premier League Ireland.

Graham Potters’ Brighton side began the season as a surprise package but form has not been on their side recently. They are now seven games without a win but they have also managed five draws in that time.

Last week they lost 2-0 away to Aston Villa and now they lie in ninth place, level on points with Man United. They will now be without their striker, Danny Welbeck so Potter will likely rely on Neal Maupay and Leandro Trossard for goals.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are suffering from second-season syndrome as the team sits in 17th place only two points in the clear. The Argentine will need to change his team’s fortunes in the next three games before they go into a very challenging Christmas period.

Last week, a weakened side put it up to Antonio Conte’s Tottenham team but lost 2-1. On Saturday, they will again rely heavily on Daniel James and Kalvin Phillips as they wait for stars to return from injury.

This has become a common fixture in the last decade between the Premier League and Championship. Brighton has been the stronger of the two teams having won 10 of the 14 games. Two games have ended in draws and the Whites have been victorious twice.

The Seagulls did the double over Leeds last season keeping a clean sheet in both games, including a 2-0 win at home in May.

Expect the game to end 2-1 to Brighton with the home advantage playing a factor.

Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Megan Walsh has joined the Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team squad ahead of their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and Georgia.

Walsh received international clearance from FIFA to become eligible for selection by Ireland manager Vera Pauw as she had represented England at Under-17, U-19 & U-23 level.

The 27-year-old also represented Great Britain at the 2017 Summer Universiade but has yet to earn a senior international cap.

The Brighton & Hove Albion stopper – who holds the Women’s Super League record for most saves – qualifies for Ireland through her Wexford-born Grandfather, William Walsh, and finally got the green light.

“It is a real honour and privilege to be called up into the Ireland squad. I was with Rianna Jarrett, Denise O’Sullivan and Megan Connolly at Brighton last year when my Irish heritage came up and things went from there,” said Walsh.

“It has taken about 12 months to finally get here. I am excited at the opportunity to be part of the Irish Women’s Team and to work with Vera.

“My Grandparents, on my Dad’s side, were from Enniscorthy, County Wexford, where we still have family.

“I know they would be so proud of me being part of the Women’s National Team.”

Walsh reported into Ireland camp following Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Reading, where fellow Ireland goalkeeper Grace Moloney kept a clean sheet.

“I realise I will have to fight hard for a place on the team but that’s always the case in elite football and I have had to do that wherever I have been in football,” said Walsh.

“The main thing is to qualify for the World Cup and I know all the squad will want to make sure we get out of the Group.”

Shelbourne midfielder Jess Ziu has also been added to the squad alongside 16-year-old clubmate Jessie Stapleton, Celtic’s Isibeal Atkinson and Birmingham City forward Emily Whelan.

Injuries rule out Glasgow City’s Claire Walsh, Wexford Youths midfielder Ellen Molloy and Liverpool forward Leanne Kiernan.

The squad will train at the FAI National Training Centre on Monday afternoon ahead of taking on Slovakia on Thursday, November 25th and then Georgia on Tuesday, November 30th – both at Tallaght Stadium.

Republic of Ireland squad for Slovakia and Georgia

Goalkeepers: Courtney Brosnan (Everton), Grace Moloney (Reading), Megan Walsh (Brighton & Hove Albion)

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is set to miss the club’s second home UEFA Champions League game of the season against Atletico Madrid after failing to play the full 90 minutes against Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend.

The Liverpool No.8 had to be withdrawn during the first half of Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion due to a hamstring injury, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain coming on in his place.

The substitution took place just 19 minutes into the game and the Guinean’s latest injury follows Paul Pogba’s woeful tackle on the midfielder in the 5-0 win over Manchester United the Sunday previous.

Keita will undergo a scan on the issue to determine its severity, but Klopp does not anticipate the midfielder can be involved versus Atletico.

“He told me, he showed me [the] hamstring,” Klopp said to Liverpoolfc.com post-match. “So, I don’t know, we will see; obviously tomorrow [or] the day after tomorrow he will have a scan and then we will know.

“But if somebody feels the hamstring, it would be the first time that he is ready for the next game. So, I can’t see that.”

Keita has already missed 54 games for Liverpool due to injury in his time with the club, amassing 14 injuries over three years in red, with this hamstring injury set to add to that.

The large number of injuries does not include the knock that he recovered from in time to face Brighton.

Liverpool currently have three fit midfielders in their squad – Jordan Henderson, Curtis Jones and Oxlade-Chamberlain.

19-year-old Tyler Morton, who celebrated his birthday on Halloween, is also available for selection, having been named on the bench for Saturday’s game.

It remains to be seen whether Thiago Alcantara or Fabinho will be deemed fit for the match against the Spanish champions.

Thiago Alcantara joined in on Thursday’s session as he continued his recovery from a calf injury but was not named in the matchday squad at the weekend.

Fabinho’s knee issue kept him out of the clash with Graham Potter’s Seagulls – it is the third game in a row that Liverpool did not have him at their disposal.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds face Atletico Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday, November 3 at 8 pm.

Liverpool welcome Brighton and Hove Albion to Anfield on Saturday after two successive away trips in the Premier League against Watford and Manchester United.

The Reds recorded 5-0 wins over both sides and currently sit a point off the top of the Premier League, proving that last season was an outlier.

Brighton are winless in a month after a strong start and failing to register one at Anfield will extend the streak to five in the league and six in all competitions.

Naby Keita has returned to full training after being the victim of a two-footed tackle from Paul Pogba – a challenge that saw the French substitute walk after just a quarter of an hour on the pitch.

Thiago Alcantara also joined in on Thursday’s session as he continues his recovery from a calf injury.

However, Fabinho’s knee issue will keep him out of the clash with Graham Potter’s Seagulls – it is the third game in a row that Liverpool will not have him at their disposal.

Brighton defender Dan Burn will miss the trip to Merseyside after injuring his knee against Leicester in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie.

Steven Alzate, the goalscorer the last time Brighton were at Anfield, will also be out due to a long-term injury, as will Danny Welbeck.

Teams

Liverpool – Predicted (4-3-3): Alisson; Trent, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Thiago, Jones; Salah, Firmino, ManĂ©.

Brighton and Hove Albion – Predicted (3-5-2): Sanchez; Webster, Duffy, Dunk; Lamptey, Moder, Gross, Lallana, Cucurella; Trossard, Maupay.

Odds

Liverpool 1/5

Draw 11/2

Brighton and Hove Albion 10/1

Where To Watch

The match will kick-off at 3 pm and will be available to watch live on Premier Sports.

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has said that his side’s win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup was a good experience for the academy players that made an appearance.

The Foxes won 4-2 on penalties after Graham Potter’s Seagulls had equalised twice in the game’s 90 minutes.

Harvey Barnes and Ademola Lookman had twice put Leicester ahead but Adam Webster and Enock Mwepu brought their side level.

Mwepu missed the deciding penalty as Wales number one Danny Ward denied him to help his side progress to the quarter-finals.

“It was a good victory for us,” the Northern Irishman told LCFC TV at full-time. “Of course, whenever you’ve got lots of players coming in who haven’t had a lot of game time, I thought we looked a little tired in the second half.

“But what you can’t question is the players’ mentality and their spirit. They showed great qualities, especially when they got the equaliser and we were able to score straight away. I’m delighted for the guys. They had to work very, very hard for it.

“Brighton are a good side, you can see they pass the ball well, but we always looked a threat. Your spirit can never be broken. There are some teams that can get pegged back and just don’t have that belief.

“Given everything, we had five Academy boys within the game, so that’s great to see them getting that experience. That’s a great education for them.

“We’ve always said our mindset is: ‘Listen, you’re never going to have it all your own way’. If you do go behind, or you do go level in the game, you keep pushing right to the very end.”

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on the fitness of striker Jamie Vardy after the number nine was substituted against Brentford at the weekend.

Vardy was taken off at half-time in Leicester’s 2-1 away victory over the latest side to play in the top division of English football

Zambian Patson Daka came on in place of the Englishman and played the rest of the second half alongside Kelechi Iheanacho.

Rodgers said to lcfc.com: “He felt something in the warm-up. I could just see in the game that Jamie wasn’t quite himself, wasn’t quite as dynamic, so I don’t want to risk any further injury.

“We made the change and brought in Patson, who’s fresh and confident after his midweek performance.”

Before the Brentford game, Rodgers had praised his options in the final third: “We’ve tried to manage the team and in particular our strikers.

“Jamie, we’re keeping him fresh in Premier League games and hoping he becomes more involved as we go into the latter stages of European competition if we’re lucky enough to do that.

“The freshness has kept him full of energy and full of goals in the Premier League. Kelechi is now a consistent performer. He can score goals and create goals and he works very, very hard.

“Patson was always one that we wanted to give that little bit of time to adapt to our way of working, our training, the league, and day in, day out, you see him become accustomed to that.

“Of course, he’s had an amazing week. He scored his first Premier League goal, the first Zambian player to score in the Premier League, and then to score four goals, it was an incredible individual achievement.

“We’re in a great position in that part of the field, whatever the combination is and however we want to work it.

All three players are in great form and in a great place. We have so many games, you can’t tie just one or two players down to the position.”
