Thomas Tuchel’s men challenge another relegation-threatened side in week eleven of the Premier League this Saturday

Chelsea v Burnley will kick off at 15:00 on Saturday 6th November in Stamford Bridge. Referee Andre Marriner will take charge of the tie.

This match will also be shown live on Premier Sports ROI 1.

Last week was very good for Tuchel’s team, they comfortably beat Newcastle while their nearest rivals Liverpool and Man City dropped points. They have proven to be a near-indestructible side that has kept seven out of ten clean sheets.

The Blues still have injuries to major players to deal with but their squad depth has been vital to their success.

Sean Dyche’s Burnley have finally found three points after they beat Brentford at home last week. Even with this win, they still sit in 18th place, points from safety.

There has been one shining light in the weak Clarets side, Ivory Coast international Maxwell Cornet has scored four goals so far this season.

The Blues have controlled this tie in recent years. In 12 meetings, Chelsea has won eight games, Burnley have won one and there have been three draws. It was back in 2017 that the Clarets managed to claim a shock 3-2 victory in Stamford Bridge.

Last season, the Blues won both games while keeping clean sheets including a 2-0 win the last time Burnley came to London.

The Irish Euro 2016 hero Robbie Brady has signed on a free transfer to promotion hopefuls AFC Bournemouth

Championship leaders Bournemouth are looking to strengthen their chances of reaching the Premier League next season with their new signing. Robbie Brady has been without a club since the summer transfer window after he was released by former club Burnley.

Four months on and the Irish winger has now found a new home in the Championship. Since he was a free agent, he signed for nothing in a deal that will last until the end of the season.

Next summer, they will discuss a new contract and if the club is happy to keep the player on long-term.

Brady has said that he turned down the opportunity to play for other clubs because he was so impressed with Scott Parker’s team.

Speaking to Bournemouth’s website, Brady said:

“For where I’m at now and my idea of wanting to get back playing football, this is a better opportunity that most to come and play.

“From watching the manager and seeing the style of football he plays, I think it will suit me.

“Hopefully I can help the club going forward. It is a good opportunity and I think it’s going to be a good fit.”

How will Brady fit in at Bournemouth?

It is obvious that the Irishman would bring a very different style of play to the club than their current wingers. Brady is not a fast player but has a very keen eye for long passes and short dribbles.

The 29-year-old still made 12 league starts for Burnley last season, scoring once and assisting once. He was never known for being a great goal threat in his career. His best season consisted of four goals and four assists while in the Championship in 2017.

The Dublin man will hope that he can find new life while in the Championship and push himself back into Stephen Kenny’s setup for the remaining World Cup qualifiers.

Arsenal have finally got their first win and plan to continue their form away to Burnley on week five of the Premier League

The game will kick off at 15:00 on Saturday, 18th September in Turf Moor with Anthony Taylor officiating.

Sean Dyche has not made the start to the season that he would have wanted. After four games, the team has only gotten one draw against Leeds two weeks ago.

They are about to go into a tough run of fixtures including Manchester City and Leicester so they will need to get some more points on the board this weekend.

The Gunners’ faithful are hoping that the squad has turned a new leaf, they got their first points of the league after beating bottom table side Norwich last week. In the match, they took 30 shots but only converted one goal.

Arteta will need to improve his shooting performance now that he is facing a side famed for their strong, obedient defense.

Arsenal should love this tie as they have won ten of their last 13 fixtures. Last season was a major blip for them as they drew and lost at home to Dyche’s men so this could go either way.

Score Prediction

This tie does not guarantee goals, you would have to go back over two years to see either team score more than one. Form is on Mikel Arteta’s team’s side and that could prove to be the difference this Saturday.

Leeds United travel to Burnley looking for their first win of the season on week three of the Premier League

The match will kick off at 14:00 on Sunday 29th August in Turf Moor with Michael Oliver in charge.

Burnley have made a very poor start to their league campaign with two losses. They have been beaten by Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool so far and this game will not be any easier.

Sean Dyche has made a living by ensuring that his squad will never be in a real threat of relegation and this season probably will not be different.

Now, he has laxed some of his rules as the club bought young Ivory Coast winger Cornet, it will be interesting if he makes his first appearance this weekend.

Leeds are starting to improve their season after a comeback draw to Everton last week. They also gained some confidence after easily beating Crew Alexandra in the EFL Cup.

Their important defender Diego Llorente is back from injury and Bielsa may risk playing him to ensure getting points on Sunday.

Last season Leeds United completed the double over Burnley including a 4-0 thrashing in Turf Moor in May.

Predicted Starting 11

Burnley

Formation

4-4-2

Starting Team

Pope (GK), Pieters, Mee, Tarkowski, Lowton, McNeil, Cork, Brownhill, Gudmundsson, Wood, Barnes.

Injuries

Westwood, Stephens, Long, Vydra.

Leeds United

Formation

4-1-4-1

Starting Team

Meslier (GK), Firpo, Struijk, Cooper, Ayling, Phillips, Harrison, Klich, Dallas, Raphinha, Bamford.

Injuries

Koch.

Betting

Burnley are the bookies’ underdogs with odds to win at 2/1.

A draw has odds of 12/5.

Leeds are favourites away from home with odds of 13/10 to win.

Score Prediction

This will be a tough game to call with a fast, energetic side against a firm, strong defence. What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?

Expect this to be close until the end with a final scoring of 1-1, splitting the spoils.

Liverpool have agreed a deal in the region of £9.5 million (€11m) with French side Olympique Lyonnais for want-away playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri.

Shaqiri will leave Merseyside after making 45 appearances for the Reds and winning four trophies in the process.

He was signed from Stoke City in the summer of 2018 for a fee of £13.5m after Paul Lambert’s side were relegated from the Premier League.

His three years a the club has seen the 29-year-old add a Premier League and a second UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup to his personal trophy haul.

The Swiss international has been looking for a move this summer after a lack of playing time following a successful first season with the club.

His move will give more opportunities to academy prospects, with the rise of 18-year-old Harvey Elliott being well documented and forward Kaide Gordon also impressing in pre-season.

Lyon recently had a bid for Shaqiri rejected but it appears that they have a sweet spot with their latest bid.

Shaqiri turns 30 this year and has one year left on his contract with an option for an extra year.

The Swiss attacker will put pen to paper on a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 team, who have been looking for a Memphis Depay replacement since the Dutchman’s departure earlier this summer.

Shaqiri has not been part of Liverpool’s first two matchday squads of the season while Harvey Elliott has been in both, starting their most recent fixture against Burnley.

Elliott impressed on his first Premier League start for the club with his creativity shining throughout and his movement proving tricky for the opposition to contain.

The childhood Liverpool fan was denied an assist when Mohamed Salah’s strike was ruled out by VAR as the Egyptian was in an offside position but his role in Liverpool’s second did not go unnoticed.

Shaqiri will get the playtime he desires in a break-up that works well for both parties.

Liverpool 2-0 Burnley

Liverpool dispatched Burnley in their first home fixture of the 2021/22 season to maintain a 100% record after the first two games.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds were made to work for their result as Burnley looked dangerous in the final third but either could not find the finishing touch or were offside.

Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas showed his quality with a Robertson-esque cross finding the head of centre-forward Diogo Jota, who headed home in front of the Kop.

Moments before, right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and goalkeeper Alisson denied the visitors an unexpected lead with some stellar defensive work.

It was Burnley’s poor defending that allowed Jota the space to nod in the opener as centre-back Ben Mee moved away from Jota and left the goalscorer free in the middle of the box.

Liverpool were denied a second by VAR as midfielder Harvey Elliott, in his first Premier League start for the side, linked up with winger Mohamed Salah who curled the ball into the net.

Salah was deemed to be in an offside position and the goal was disallowed – this seemed to wake Burnley up.

Sean Dyche’s side pressed for an equaliser but went in at half-time without one to their name.

Striker Ashley Barnes put the ball into the home side’s net but his finish was ruled offside.

As time went on, Burnley’s pressure began to disintegrate and Liverpool gained the foothold in the match that they had searched for.

Sadio Mané secured the win for his side after Trent played the Senegalese forward in on goal.

The Liverpool full-backs were key to the side’s seventh win on the trot in the competition.

Liverpool will now look to next week’s game against Chelsea at Anfield before the first international break of the season.

The side return to action on Saturday, August 28th at 5:30 pm.

Liverpool will host Burnley at Anfield in their first home fixture of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

The match will be played in front of a capacity crowd at Anfield for the first time since March 2020 when Atletico Madrid upset the then-defending Champions League winners.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are coming off a 3-0 opening day against Norwich City at Carrow Road last Saturday.

It was not the best performance from the Reds but the Canaries rarely troubled them, and when they did, Alisson was on hand to stop them.

Liverpool’s midfield of James Milner, who wore the captain’s armband, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain did not click as well as Klopp would have hoped.

Some changes are expected in the middle of the park with Fabinho available and Curtis Jones expected to return after suffering a concussion in pre-season.

Kostas Tsimikas will make his second successive start in the Premier League at left-back, with Andy Robertson still recovering from injury.

All of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota are fit for the game and Klopp will be spoilt for choice as a result.

Harvey Elliott and Jordan Henderson will also be available for the side’s first home fixture of the season and Ibrahima Konate could be in with a shout after sitting on the bench against Norwich.

There are no injury concerns for Sean Dyche’s visitors, who return to the ground where they shocked fans of the league last season.

Ashley Barnes scored the only goal in the game that ended Liverpool’s historic 68-game unbeaten run at home.

The Clarets lost their league opener to Graham Potter’s Brighton and Hove Albion and will want to bounce back from the 2-1 defeat.

The fixture saw Dyche set his side up in a 4-4-2 and it is expected that they will line up in the same formation on Saturday.

Lineups

Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson; Trent, Matip, Van Dijk Tsimikas; Henderson, Keita, Elliott; Salah, Jota, Mané.

Burnley (4-4-2): Pope; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor; Gudmundsson, Brownhill, Cork, McNeil; Wood, Barnes.

Irish U21 footballer, Nathan Collins, has impressed Sean Dyche enough to warrant a €14m bid to bring him to the Premier League

Collins is a 20-year-old central defender who has spent the last three seasons at Championship side Stoke City.

The young Dubliner has had admires from the Premier League for a while now. The Burnley manager has already had a €5m bid in January rejected.

There were also links with Werder Bremen and Manchester United in 2019 and Arsenal, Leicester, and Chelsea in 2020.

Unfortunately, Collins fractured a bone in his left foot near the end of this season. This ruled him out of making his Ireland debut in the friendlies against Hungary and Andorra.

If the Burnley sale were to sell him, that would make Collins the most expensive Stoke graduate in their history.

Is Nathan Collins worth the price tag?

Football talent seems to run deep in the Collins family with his father, Dave, playing for Liverpool and Oxford United. His brother, Eamonn, also played League of Ireland football with UCD and Waterford.

Collins was made captain this season standing out in League Cup victories over Premier League teams, Aston Villa and Wolves.

Standing at 6’4’’ he could be the perfect inclusion in Dyche’s defensively strong team.

The young man has proved to be an aerial threat as well, scoring two goals in 22 appearances in the Championship this year.

Some of the Premier League ‘Big Six’ have been trying to lure James Tarkowski away from Burnley and Dyche may be in need of a replacement

Manager Michael O’Neill saw the youngster as a vital part of his team and now he could be an important part of Burnley’s Premier League future.

Their win against Burnley tonight leaves them three points ahead of Liverpool.

Manchester United were one of the most feared teams in Europe for decades – predominately during the 1990’s and 2000’s. Over the past 10 years or so, though, they’ve been on a steady decline.

That said, this season they’ve managed to prove many doubters wrong – despite a shaky start to the campaign.

Statistically, they’re in the best spell of form out of all the teams in the Premier League. They’d won 4 of their previous 5 league games which left them level on points with title rivals Liverpool going into tonight’s fixture.

Manchester United travelled to Turf Moor with their sights firmly set on the top of the league.

As mentioned previously, the top two were on equal points prior to the game. Now, United have climbed their title rivals to claim 1st position after a 1-0 win against Burnley.

Paul Pogba scored the matchwinner in the 71st minute with a well struck volley which was deflected into the net.

The goal came after a variety of controversial incidents in the first half. Harry Maguire had a goal disallowed in the 35th minute for a push on an opposition defender.

Minutes before that there were a series of controversial incidents during a sequence of play. Robbie Brady had initially been yellow carded for a potentially goal-stopping challenge on Edinson Cavani but that was overturned after VAR reviewed a late Luke Shaw challenge in the build-up which led to a yellow card for the United man.

CLASH OF THE GIANTS

United and Liverpool are due to face each other on Sunday in what could be a potential title deciding clash.

Nothing but a win will do for Liverpool if they wish to reclaim their position as league leaders. They currently have a higher goal difference than United meaning any margin of victory would be good enough to go top.

Manchester United have not won against Liverpool in the last four matches between the two clubs. Liverpool have a long list of injury problems, though, particularly at the back. United will be looking to capitalize on their defensive woes en route to a match winning performance.

Burnley, Crystal Palace and West Ham United have reportedly shown interest in the young Irish international

Irish international Jason Knight has attracted the interest of several Premier League clubs, according to reports.

Knight is currently contracted to Championship club Derby whom he joined from Cabinteely in 2017.

The 19-year-old midfielder has been the shining light in Derby’s substandard Championship campaign this season. Despite his team sitting just 22nd in the table, Knight has produced consistently good displays which have led to the reported interest.

The clubs in question are Burnley, Crystal Palace and West Ham. Burnley are thought to be particularly keen on the teenager.

The transfer window opened at the beginning of the month, meaning clubs have until the 31st of January to secure a deal, if they so wish.

KNIGHT’S STORY SO FAR

As mentioned previously, Knight joined Derby County’s academy from Cabinteely in 2017. Cabinteely – as well as Derby – should be given plenty of credit for Knight’s development to this point. He joined Cabinteely at the age of 4 and stayed at the club until his move to England at the age of 16.

Knight progressed through the Derby County youth sides before making his first team debut on the 5th of August 2019 at the age of 18.

Since then, Knight has established himself as a key member of the Derby squad, particularly this season.

Despite his age, the young midfielder has already amassed bags of experience at a high level. Knight has made over 50 Championship appearances for Derby, scoring an impressive 8 goals from midfield in the process.

He has also earned senior international honours last year. He earned his first senior international cap against Finland in October and went on to make two further appearances, including a start against Bulgaria in a scoreless draw.

Knight has represented Ireland through u17 up to senior level.

WOULD A PREMIER LEAGUE MOVE BE GOOD FOR KNIGHT?

Of course, the thought of Premier League football would entice any young player to make the move to the highest level. Expectation is often different from reality, though.

While Knight is clearly a very talented player capable of playing at the top level, there is no guarantee of regular game time when moving to a new club, particularly in the Premier League.

He’s currently one of the first names on the Derby team sheet and there is a guarantee of football at a high level, something which he may not get in the Premier League.

Knight is still only 19, meaning there is more than enough time to establish himself as a Premier League player in the coming years.

In our opinion, he should stay at Derby, at least until the end of the season. That way Knight can continue to play in virtually every possible game until the end of the season and assess his position in the squad come the summer time.
