Tyrone and Cavan renew rivalries in another all-Ulster showdown this Sunday, just a year on from their extra-time thriller in Kingspan Breffni. That day, Tyrone edged out Cavan by a single point, 1-23 to 3-16, and the Red Hands will once again be favourites—despite a rocky league campaign that saw them relegated from Division 1.

Cavan, for their part, were a solid mid-table team in Division 2, winning four games and showing resilience throughout. Mickey Graham’s men will take confidence from their attacking style of play and will look to trouble a Tyrone defence that, while statistically the best in Division 1, has at times lacked bite when faced with high-tempo opposition.

Tyrone are still transitioning their squad but remain potent, with Darragh Canavan and Mattie Donnelly leading the line. Conor Meyler and Frank Burns are key men if the hosts are to progress.

Cavan will hope Paddy Lynch and Gearóid McKiernan can reproduce the form that lit up last year’s championship. But they haven’t beaten Tyrone in championship football since 1983—something that underlines the scale of their challenge.

The winners will face either Antrim or Armagh in the semi-final.

Meadow shot her second 66 of the tournament to finish out on her own in the leaderboard on 12-under-par.

The Jordanstown golfer finished five shots off winner Nelly Korda of Team USA – the gap between the pair after round one.

There were no faults on Meadow’s final round scorecard, unlike round two where she bogeyed the 10th hole.

Five birdies from the two-time Olympian ensured her a place in the top ten of the leaderboard.

Meadow’s final-day performance summed up her fantastic week from round two onwards and the composure she showed in previous rounds was evident throughout.

She finished among the top performers on the final day and just short of a medal.

The 29-year-old was four shots off a medal after the final day saw several challengers fall away as the trio and eventual podium of Korda – Mone Inami (Japan) – Lydia Ko (New Zealand) shone.

Leona Maguire had a turbulent final day that saw her bring an end to an inconsistent weekend.

The Team Ireland golfer came into the Olympics on a high after scoring the joint-lowest ever round at a major but could not carry that form over.

Her four birdies and as many bogeys highlight a weekend that could have gone so much better for the Cavan native.

A very poor front nine saw Maguire score three bogeys and head into the final nine of the tournament with a lot of work to do.

The former number one amateur golfer in the world made amends with four birdies in a six-hole span but a fourth bogey on the final hole denied her a below-par round.

Maguire comes home after securing a five-under Olympic performance and both golfers involved will continue their LPGA seasons.

Ulster SFC Final – Cavan 1-13 Donegal 0-12

Cavan have won the Ulster Championship for the first time in 23 years. Against all odds they beat Donegal in Sunday’s final, retribution after losing last year’s final.

Cavan started the game the stronger of the two, taking a three point lead after the first ten minutes. However, this came to a halt after 12 minutes when Killian Brady was shown a black card and Cavan were down to 14 men. The tide turned in Donegal’s favour and they took a two point lead heading into halftime.

The second half was an even contest, with both sides squandering decent chances. Cavan regained the lead, albeit a very tight lead, right up until the 70^th minute with the gap at one point. Then came the decisive goal. Donegal keeper Patton palmed a floating ball straight to Conor Madden who made no mistake and sealed the historic win for his county.

Munster SFC Final – Tipperary 0-17 Cork 0-14

Another final day upset and another win doused in history. Tipperary won their first Munster Championship in 85 years. Yet the win was even more special for Tipp as it came on the anniversary of Bloody Sunday, when one of their owners, Mick Horgan, lost his life in Croke Park.

Despite Cork’s heroic win over Kerry, Tipperary, like Cavan, looked more up for it from the first whistle. After three minutes, the first three points were on the board and belonged to Tipp. Cork fought back with Ian Maguire leading the charge. A brief spell of dominance resulted in them taking the lead. But not for long. Tipp’s Michael Quinlivan put his stamp on the game, inspiring his team to a four point lead at halftime.

Both sides exchanged blows in the second half. Tipperary started the half strong, whilst Cork came back with a flurry of points. However, their efforts were in vain as Tipp held on knowing history was being made.

Leinster SFC Final – Dublin 3-21 Meath 0-9

A dominant display from reigning All-Ireland Champions Dublin who made it 10-in-a-row for Leinster Championships. It was a repeat of last years’ final, as Dublin defeated Meath by 21 points to clinch the trophy and mark the momentous anniversary of Bloody Sunday.

Dean Rock led the scoring for Dublin with 1-7, with all of the attacking line adding their name to the scoresheet. An early point from Meath was not a sign of things to come as the Dubs had the game wrapped up by halftime, leading 2-13 to 0-2.

In a weekend filled with drama, another Championship final upset was not to be as Dublin cruised to victory in the second half. They will face Ulster Champions Cavan in the first of the semi-finals.

Mayo take the fourth semi-final spot after their narrow win over Galway in the Connacht SFC Final last weekend. They will face Munster Champions Tipperary in the second semi-final.
