Antrim v Dublin: Corrigan Park Hosts Crucial Leinster Round 3 Clash

Venue: Corrigan Park, Belfast

Date & Time: Saturday, May 10th, 4:00pm

Broadcast: Live on GAA+

Odds: Dublin 1/8 | Draw 20/1 | Antrim 8/1

Handicap: Dublin -8

Tip: Antrim +8

Dublin travel north to face Antrim in Round 3 of the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship, hoping to maintain their perfect record after wins over Wexford and Offaly. Antrim, meanwhile, are still searching for their first points and will be determined to put on a show at home in Corrigan Park.

Despite the odds strongly favouring the Dubs at 1/8, there’s reason to consider Antrim +8 on the handicap line as the smart value bet.

Recent Form

  • Dublin:
    • Beat Offaly and Wexford
    • Scored 4-51, conceded 6-38
    • Beat Antrim by 1-25 to 0-14 in Allianz League
  • Antrim:
    • Lost to Kilkenny and Wexford
    • Conceded most (4-54) and scored least (2-31) in Leinster

Last Five Championship Meetings

  • 2024: Dublin 3-32 Antrim 1-18
  • 2023: Dublin 1-19 Antrim 1-19
  • 2021: Dublin 3-31 Antrim 0-22
  • 2010: Antrim 1-17 Dublin 0-19
  • 2009: Dublin 2-16 Antrim 0-12

Dublin have had the upper hand in recent years, but Antrim have covered this handicap (+8) in 2 of the last 4 meetings.

Table After 2 Rounds

Team P W D L For Against Diff Points
Kilkenny 2 2 0 0 5-54 2-33 +30 4
Dublin 2 2 0 0 4-51 6-38 +7 4
Wexford 2 1 0 1 6-43 3-45 +7 2
Galway 2 1 0 1 2-46 4-38 +2 2
Offaly 2 0 0 2 3-33 3-50 -17 0
Antrim 2 0 0 2 2-31 4-54 -29 0

Tip: Antrim +8 at Corrigan Park

Dublin are deserved favourites, but Corrigan Park is a tough venue and Antrim have a tendency to rise to the occasion at home. The Dubs may rotate their squad slightly ahead of bigger clashes, and that opens the door for Antrim to keep this closer than expected.

Recommendation: Back Antrim +8 on the handicap line for value.

Galway will face Dublin in the Leinster Senior Hurling semi-final in Croke Park at 14:00 on Saturday 3rd of July

This match is set up to be the game of the weekend as two of Leinster’s best teams challenge to see who will make it to the final.

The government has allowed 8,000 spectators in Croke Park to watch the game. Sky Sports will also televise the match for those not sitting in the stands.

A late flurry in their last game in the league against Cork saw Galway win by a handy margin. The Tribesmen finished top of the league with four wins against teams like Waterford and Limerick.

Dublin was not so handy in their league only getting two wins in a group with Kilkenny, Clare, and Wexford.

The two teams have not faced each other in over a year with Dublin winning the u20s Leinster hurling final last year against Galway.

Other than the talismanic figure of Joe Canning, full-forward Evan Niland could prove to be a big threat in front of goal.

Donal Burke will try to be Dublin’s main man, he scored 1-10, mainly from frees and penalties, for them in their loss to Wexford.

Predicted teams

Galway

É Murphy (GK); D Morrissey, G McInerney, TJ Brennan; P Mannion, D Burke, F Burke; S Loftus, C Mannion; C Whelan, J Canning, Joseph Cooney; Brian Concannon, Evan Niland, Conor Cooney.

Dublin

S Brennan (GK); J Madden, E O’Donnell, C O’Callaghan; D Gray, L Rushe, C Burke; R McBride, D Burke; D Sutcliffe, C Crummey, M Schutte; C Boland, R Hayes, D Keogh.

Betting

Galway is firm favorites in this game with odds of 1/5.

Bookies are not expecting this tie to end in a stalemate with odds of 11/1 for a draw.

Lastly, Dublin is the outside bet with odds of 4/1 to win.

Prediction

The early rounds of the provincial championships are known for their surprises, but this will not be one of those games.

This is a physically strong and demanding Galway side and expect them to dominate against a county that only focuses on their Gaelic football these days.

This game will finish with a few goals score but ultimately Galway winning by at least five points.

Over 8,000 supporters will be able to attend this Saturday’s Leinster Hurling Championship Semi-Finals at Croke Park.

Two games will be played to mark the return of fans in what will be the biggest crowd in Ireland since COVID-19.

Galway vs Dublin and Kilkenny vs Wexford, will all meet to decide who faces who in the Leinster Final on the 17th of July.

Each game was originally set to be played in Portlaoise, but Leinster GAA announced at six o’clock on Monday evening that the games have been moved to Croke Park,

It will be the first sporting event of its kind in Ireland since the pandemic began with all-inter county matches only able to hold no more than 200 fans.

“Leinster GAA are delighted to announce the Senior Hurling Semi-Finals this Saturday will now take place in Croke Park,” read a Leinster GAA statement on Monday.

“8,000 spectators will watch Dublin v Galway (2 pm) and Kilkenny v Wexford at (4.30 pm). Ticketing details and relevant information will be confirmed tomorrow.”

Dublin and Wexford booked their place in the Semi-Finals with comprehensive wins over Antrim and Laois.

The Dubs winning by an 18-point margin, while Wexford hammered Laois by 20 points.

Saturday evening will also see Cork face off against reigning Munster and All-Ireland champions Limerick at the Semple Stadium in Thurles at 7.00 pm.

The game will also see a return for some spectators, with a guarantee of up to 2,400 fans.

While Tipperary and Clare will go head-to-head in the second Munster Semi-Final on Sunday the 4th of July.

This will represent a change in the covid-19 restrictions in Ireland, with many sporting events now allowing thousands of fans into stadiums.

All games will be shown live on Sky Sports Arena, with coverage starting at 1.00 pm.

Dublin v Antrim – Pairc Tailteann – 3:00pm – GAAGO

Dublin and Antrim will go head to head to find out who makes the Leinster Semi-Final at a neutral venue in Meath this weekend.

Antrim has been on a revolution of sorts for the past few years, finishing above Dublin in the league campaign was a major coup for Darren Gleeson’s men.

Dublin is usually the dark horses come to championship time. Unlike the football side, they are not seen as the favourites for Liam McCarthy and had a poor league campaign.

However, the Dubs did manage to defeat Antrim earlier on in the league by an eight-point margin in May.

Both teams know each other well and whoever comes out on top will hope to bolster their chances going further into the championship.

Players to watch:

Dublin: Cian Boland

Antrim: Niall McKenna
