Arsenal appear to be stocked full of promising young forwards so it might be time for them to offload Englishman Eddie Nketiah

Between Gabriel Martinelli, Florian Balogun and Bukayo Saka, there is a host of youth that can play in the forward line for the Gunners. With this much competition, some young players will be left at the wayside for game time.

Arsenal now has the option to sell on one of their brightest stars Nketiah. The England U21 international has missed the start of the season with an ankle injury but Crystal Palace is still interested in signing him.

Nketiah is out of contract at the Emirates in June and has shown no interest in signing a new deal only to be sent out on loan. Arteta will now have to decide if he wants to let him go for free next summer or find a suiter in the next few weeks.

The Arsenal manager would be looking for Ā£20 million to help pay for some of the club’s previous signings.

David Ornstein from the Athletic has reported that Palace are looking for Nketiah’s signature but for only Ā£10 million. An unnamed German club is waving around similar money to sign the striker as well.

The 22-year-old scored two goals and got one assist in 17 appearances in the Premier League. He was relegated to being a substitute on most occasions as he only made four starts.

He is not the only man looking for the door in Arsenal. Fullback Hector Bellerin and Sead Kolasinac could be moving on to pastures new in the next two weeks. The club is also looking to lose aging stars, Alexander Lacazette and Willian as they try to rejuvenate the team.

Their next match is away to West Brom in the Carabao Cup as they try to get back to winning ways. The match kicks off at 20:00 in the Hawthorns on Wednesday, 25th August.

The Gunners will be without Ghanian midfielder Thomas Partey and striker Eddie Nketiah for the opening few weeks of the 2021/22 season

Partey suffered ankle ligament damage in the 2-1 friendly defeat to Chelsea last week. The Ghanian is not expected to return for at least two weeks with this type of injury.

2020 was a tough opening season for Partey as he failed to light up the Emirates Stadium in a year where Arsenal finished ninth. This injury already puts his second season off to a similarly poor start.

Also in the Chelsea match, young English forward Nketiah sustained bruising to his right ankle. He is to be sidelined for at minimum a month before his leg has recovered.

This means that both players will miss the opening Premier League match against Brentford on Friday. Later this month they will also miss very important ties with Chelsea and later Manchester City. The pair will also be out of contention for the EFL Cup second-round match against the newly relegated West Bromich Albion.

The club is still unsure on center-back Gabriel’s return date after he injured his knee representing Brazil at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

With Arsenal’s team seemingly depleted for their opening game on Friday, manager Mikel Arteta has made it clear that Arsenal still has plenty of business to do in the transfer window.

The club has already spent in the region of €75 million on three players: Ben White from Brighton, Albert Sambi Lokongo from Anderlecht, and Nuno Tavares from Benfica.

The club is also linked with a swap deal of Lautero Martinez from Inter Milan for aging striker Alexander Lacazette.

Speaking about their transfer business in a recent press conference, Arteta said:

“There is still a window to go, I’m sure things will happen in a way. I’m willing to work with the players I have at the moment and get the best out of them. We will see what we can do.

“We have ownership that are willing to invest in the team and they want to get the team better with bigger aims. But at the same time, we need to be careful because we want to be in a financial position that is sustainable for the club.”

Arsenal start their season away to newly-promoted Brentford at 20:00 on Friday, 13th August.

Despite their best efforts, Dundalk lost all their group games.

The Aviva Stadium was the setting as Dundalk took on Arsenal in their final Europa League game of this campaign. Having just won the FAI Cup at the weekend, the Lilywhites would have been in good spirits going into the game, despite being already eliminated from qualifying. They produced a respectable, spirited display but Dundalk finished the group stage with 0 points as Arsenal claimed a 4-2 victory.

Unfortunately for Dundalk, it didn’t take Arsenal long to get going. Eddie Nketiah found the net after 12 minutes. The goal came as a result of a mistake from defender Andy Boyle, his clearance was closed down by the Arsenal striker before he closed down on goal and finished calmly into the net.

They had their second just minutes later. This time it was a wonderstrike. Mohamed Elneny struck from well outside the box and the ball floated into the top corner, leaving no chance for Gary Rogers.

With the scoreline at 2-0 after 18 minutes, most would have expected a long night for Dundalk. That wasn’t the case, though. Dundalk didn’t panic and got their own back in the 22nd minute. The goalscorer was Jordan Flores and it was a typical strike from him. He picked up a loose ball before playing a 1-2 with Michael Duffy and smashing into the back of the net from just inside the box.

Opportunities were few and far between afterwards, but Dundalk very nearly equalized in the dying embers of the first half. Darragh Leahy got on the end of a cross and his shot appeared to be goal bound, but it was blocked and went out for a corner which led to nothing.

The first half finished 2-1 to Arsenal but Dundalk should have been proud of their first half display. Despite being outclassed in the beginning of the game, they came back and didn’t look out of place despite the difference in reputation between the two teams.

Dundalk started the second as they ended the first by matching Arsenal in quality and producing a handful of decent attacking moves, albeit without any chances.

Their hard work was all but undone in the 67th minute, though. Joe Willock scored for Arsenal after a succession of defensive mistakes/frailties from Dundalk. Despite not being a natural goalscorer, Willock also netted against Dundalk in October.

Arsenal got their 4th of the night in the 79th minute. Young striker Folarin Balogun was the scorer. He was afforded far too much space as he was playing in before he coolly slotted past Gary Rogers.

Dundalk deserved to decrease the deficit given their display on the night and they did so in the 85th minute. Sean Hoare rose highest to meet a free kick with the back of his head which ended up in the back of the net.

The match finished 4-2 as Dundalk’s Europa League campaign ended while Arsenal advanced to the knockout stage. The scoreline was perhaps slightly harsh on Dundalk who remained competitive for much of the match.
