Thomas Tuchel will want to continue his winning and silverware run as he faces Southampton in Round Three of the EFL Cup

Chelsea v Southampton will kick-off at 19:45 tonight, Tuesday 25th October in Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel has built a nearly impenetrable side this season but will likely shake things up this evening. Since the international break, the Blues have won four matches on the bounce, scoring 15 goals and conceding only two.

Chelsea were lucky to reach this stage of the competition after they drew 1-1 with Aston Villa before a Reece James penalty won the subsequent shootout.

Southampton have not been as strong this season. The Saints have only won a singular match this season and now sit in 16th in the league.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side still have hope in the cup after opening the competition with an 8-0 win over Newport County. Last round, they needed to win in a similar fashion to Chelsea as they overcame Sheffield United in a tense penalty shootout.

This has become a very common fixture in the last decade. In their last 21 meetings, Chelsea have won 12 matches while Southampton won a rare three, most recently in 2015. Their most recent game ended 3-1 to the Blues back at the start of this month.

Score Prediction

Even though Tuchel will most likely play a weakened side in this cup fixture, the depth of his squad should be enough to qualify for the next round of the cup. Rotation players Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek showed their capabilities in their latest league fixture and they will play a big part in tonight’s game.

Expect this game will end 4-1 to Chelsea.

Leeds United will be looking for something to cheer about as they travel to Arsenal for Round Three of the EFL Cup this evening

Arsenal v Leeds United will kick off at 19:45 tonight, Tuesday 26th October in the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have been on a decent run in the last two months, they are now unbeaten in seven games with wins over Tottenham and Aston Villa. This winning form began in this competition when they trashed a replacement West Brom team in August.

They reached the fourth round of the EFL Cup after they beat League One side Wimbledon 3-0 at home. In two games, the London Reds have scored nine goals and conceded none so they will want to keep that going tonight.

Leeds have not been as fortunate this season. The Whites sit in 17th place with only one win in the league.

The EFL Cup now gives the club a new opportunity for victories. After beating Crewe Alexandra 3-0 at home, they faced Fulham in Craven Cottage. That game went to penalties and the young goalkeeper became their hero.

In the last 10 years, Leeds United have failed to be the winning team in this fixture. After six games, Arsenal have won four games while two games have ended in draws. These sides are yet to face each other in the league this season but last year Arsenal won this game in a thrilling 4-2.

Arsenal v Leeds Probable Starting Teams

Arsenal

4-2-3-1

Probable Starting 11

Xhaka (Knee), Tierney (Knock)

Leeds United

Formation

Arsenal v Leeds Match Betting

Arsenal to win: 4/6

Draw: 11/4

Leeds United to win: 4/1

Score Prediction

Although neither manager will be playing their strongest squad, this will still be an entertaining fixture. Arteta’s side has the better form going into this tie and the optimism could be the difference in this tie.

Expect this game to end 3-1 to the home side Arsenal.

Liverpool have been drawn to face Preston North End in the fourth round of the 2021/22 Carabao Cup at Deepdale.

It is only the fifth time in the last 18 domestic cup ties that Liverpool have been drawn against a side outside of the Premier League.

The tie will be the first meeting between the sides in 12 years, which was also held at Deepdale, and only the second in 59 years – Albert Riera and Fernando Torres gave Liverpool a 2-0 win in the third round of the FA Cup.

Furthermore, this will be the first time Liverpool and Preston will meet each other in the league cup.

Liverpool began their current Carabao Cup campaign on Tuesday night with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road.

Preston will play their fourth game of the competition this season against Liverpool after high-scoring wins against Mansfield Town, Morecambe and Cheltenham Town.

Preston and Liverpool have connections – Liverpool signed centre-half Ben Davies from the side in January while Sepp Van Den Berg is currently on loan at the Lilywhites.

Liverpool will be expected to use the clash as an excuse to rest key players and give fringe players game time.

The Redmen’s young guns caught the eye against the Canaries as the trio of Conor Bradley, Kaide Gordon and Tyler Morton seamlessly slotted into the system that Liverpool use on their debuts.

Northern Irish right-back Conor Bradley was adept at making use of the right half-space in between the midfield and the right flank.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is known for making use of this area of the pitch when providing support in attack.

Bradley’s time in the Liverpool academy and with the Northern Irish senior side showcases his ability to join the midfield and help sustain pressure on the opposition.

However, the Tyrone native gave away a penalty towards the end of the first half but Kelleher, who hails from the same island, made sure the debutant’s mistake was not costly.

Kaide Gordon, born in 2004, made his anticipated debut at Carrow Road on the right wing and linked up well with Bradley.

Gordon worked hard and did well on the wing to force his way into spaces and create goalscoring opportunities.

He was the only member of the front three that did not get himself a goal but it was not for lack of trying on the night the former Derby County player became Liverpool’s fifth youngest-ever player at 16 years and 351 days.

Liverpool leaked counter-attacks in the first half as the midfield that looked like it lacked a defensive presence on paper lacked a defensive presence.

Step up Tyler Morton for his first 45 minutes under Jurgen Klopp – Naby Keita went the other way after picking up what appeared to be a minor muscle injury.

Morton was given lots of time and space on the ball by the hosts and did well with it as he became the assured presence that calmed the eight-time league cup winners’ midfield.

The U23 star made 31 passes while only taking 39 touches and also helped in defence, filling in for those who had left a space in the back four.

Fourth round fixtures are scheduled to be played in the week commencing October 25 and fixture details will be announced soon.

Leicester City will travel to London to take on Millwall in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

Leicester will be hoping to put an end to a three-game winless streak and get things back on track as their season has failed to get going so far.

Milwall are another club suffering from a slow start with only three wins in 10 games this season – two of them have come in the League Cup.

A Premier League scalp like Leicester would be the perfect motivation for the Lions to start a strong run of form.

Leicester loanee Ademola Lookman is in line to earn his first start after impressing Brendan Rodgers with his cameo against Brighton.

Rodgers is expected to rotate his side heavily for the clash as they look to give some regular starters a rest.

Daniel Amartey, who is the only available player that started at the Den in Leicester’s last clash with them in 2017, could also start.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could also line up for the Foxes after being eased into the first-team by his Northern Irish manager.

Players such as Patson Daka, Hamza Choudhury and Marc Albrighton also have a chance of getting on the teamsheet.

Wesley Fofana, James Justin and Nampalys Mendy are still sidelined with long-term injuries.

Maikel Kieftenbeld is the only injury concern for the hosts ahead of the clash with the FA Cup champions.

Shaun Hutchinson is set to return from injury while Benik Afobe, George Evans and Danny McNamara have also been training this week.

Jed Wallace and Sheyi Ojo will miss the game through illness.

Lineups

Milwall (3-4-2-1): Long; Hutchinson, Pearce, Cooper; Leonard, Mitchell, Evans, Wallace; Maloney, Thompson; Bradshaw.

Subs: Smith, Malone, Saville, Bodvarsson, Afobe, Ballard Bialkowski.

Leicester City (3-5-2): Ward; Amartey, Soyuncu, Evans; Albrighton, Tielemans, Ndidi, Dewbury-Hall, Thomas; Iheanacho, Lookman.

Subs: Barnes, Maddison, Vestergaard, Castagne, Daka, Jakupovic, Soumaré.

Odds

Millwall 9/2

Draw 11/4

Leicester City 8/13

Where To Watch

The match will kick-off at 7:45 pm but will not be available on TV. You can follow the game on the clubs’ social media pages.

The three debutants on the night – Conor Bradley, Kaide Gordon and Tyler Morton – all impressed in the third round of the Carabao Cup against Norwich City as Liverpool put three past the struggling Canaries.

Takumi Minamino scored four minutes into the game and added another early in the second half before Divock Origi killed the tie with a third for the side while left-back Kostas Tsimikas was instrumental throughout.

However, it was the Redmen’s young guns that caught the eye on their big nights as the trio seamlessly slotted into the system that Liverpool use.

Summer signing Ibrahima Konate also helped the 18-year-old in his first game for the senior team, often occupying the right flank to cut out counter-attacks.

Kaide Gordon, born in 2004, made his anticipated debut at Carrow Road on the right wing and linked up well with Bradley.

Gordon worked hard and did well on the back to force his way into spaces and create goalscoring opportunities.

He was the only member of the front three that did not get himself a goal but it was not for lack of trying on the night the former Derby County player became Liverpool’s fifth youngest-ever player at 16 years and 351 days.

Liverpool leaked counter-attacks in the first-half as the midfield that looked like it lacked a defensive presence on paper lacked a defensive presence.

Neither of the three starting midfielders were objectively bad and all added something to the Liverpool attack but a natural six was needed.

On a night that could have been so unspectacular for Liverpool, one cannot help but feel impressed by the seamless integration the youngsters had into the senior side’s style of play.

Manchester City kick-off their quest to reach a tenth final in the EFL Cup and win their ninth when they face off against League One side Wycombe Wanderers.

City have started the season strongly, even with a few hiccups, and sit three points off the top of the Premier League table.

Wycombe Wanderers come into the third round off the back of two wins via penalties against League Two opposition and face an uphill battle to beat Pep Guardiola’s men.

City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan picked up an injury in his side’s goalless draw against Southampton at the weekend and joins the long list of injury concerns for the club this season.

Rodri, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Oleksandr Zinchenko have all been sidelined in recent weeks.

Manchester City will have been expected to rotate regardless of injuries but young players may be given a chance as a result of the squad’s current fitness.

Liam Delap and Cole Palmer could earn starts for the cup holders as they mount their challenge for five-in-a-row.

Zack Steffen, Fernandinho and Phil Foden are among the stars set to play against a side that includes veteran striker Adebayo Akinfenwa.

Wycombe, a side who haven’t won a game in 90 minutes in the league cup since 2006, are the side tasked with dislodging the grip of a side who have not lost in the competition in five years.

The Wanderers are focused on the league this season after suffering relegation back to the third tier of English football in the last campaign.

According to the club site, the team is expected to be rotated before an important clash with MK Dons on Saturday.

However, Republic of Ireland international Daryl Horgan could make an appearance against the Premier League champions.

Lineups

Man City (4-3-3): Steffen; Egan-Riley, Burns, Mbete, Wilson-Esbrand; Lavia, De Bruyne, Foden; Sterling, Torres, Mahrez.

Subs: Carson, Dias, Jesus, Bernardo, Cancelo, Palmer, McAtee.

Wycombe Wanderers: Stockdale; McCarthy, Stewart, Tafazolli, Jacobson; Gape; Wheeler, Obita, Kaikai; Akinfenwa, Hanlan.

Subs: Grimmer, Thompson, Vokes, McCleary, Horgan, Scowen, Przybek.

Liverpool travel to Carrow Road for the second time this season to take on Norwich City in the third round of the 2021/22 Carabao Cup.

The match is Liverpool’s first domestic cup game of the season and a rotated side is expected to play against the Canaries.

Norwich, on the other hand, thrashed Bournemouth 6-0 in the second round to earn a date with the Reds – their only win of the season so far.

Cork man Caoimhin Kelleher and Curtis Jones will start for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the clash as the Liverpool coaching ticket has expressed the importance of the competition for young players.

“It’s gold for young players, proper gold because we like this competition to introduce new players – and that’s why I have to say that Curtis, he’s going to start tomorrow and it’s his 50th game for Liverpool. That all started with this cup,” assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders said on Monday at the pre-match press conference.

Thiago Alcantara will miss both of this week’s games for Liverpool through injury after hobbling off the pitch in the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace with a calf injury.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Roberto Firmino and Neco Williams are also all unavailable for the tie.

Norwich winger Todd Cantwell will be unavailable due to personal reasons while Christopher Zimmerman and Przemyslaw Placheta remain sidelined.

Head coach Daniel Farke is also expected to rotate his side for the cup clash, as he said in his pre-match press conference: “Once you have to play against the best teams in the world, and we do this on league level and now we do this against Liverpool in the cup, we have to do this with full intensity.

“For that, I trust my whole squad. We have three games in seven days and it is important to bring some recovered players on the pitch, but not to rest other players.

“It is more to have players who can go with this intensity against the ball in order to be competitive.”

Lineups

Norwich City (3-5-2): Gunn; Omobamidele, Hanley (C), Gibson; Mumba, Gilmour, Rupp, Lees-Melou, Giannoulis; Idah, Tzolis.

Subs: Krul, Dowell, Kabak, Rashica, Sorensen, Williams, Pukki.

Liverpool (4-3-3): Kelleher; Bradley, Konate, Gomez, Tsimikas; Keita, Jones, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Gordon, Minamino, Origi.

The focus of the midweek games will be round three of the EFL Cup, Wimbledon will travel to Arsenal looking to cause an upset

The match will kick off at 19:45 on Wednesday, 22nd of September in the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal seems to have turned their season around. Two wins on the bounce against Norwich and Burnley have given the side new energy. Those two victories now put Arsenal in 13th place in the league, only four points off the top five.

They reached this stage of the competition after they sauntered past a West Brom youth team 6-0 last month.

Wimbledon have had a tough start to their bid for promotion this season. After eight games, they have won three and drawn three leaving them in seventh place. Their recent matches were going well until a poor 1-0 defeat at home to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

Wimbledon played well in their Round Two match against Northhampton, winning by a singular goal to earn their right to face Arsenal.

These two clubs have not faced each other in recent history with Wimbledon currently sitting two leagues below the Gunners in League One. As the sides are split by around 45 places in the English league system, it is clear that Arsenal will be out-and-out favorites.

The EFL Cup third round takes up this midweek set of fixtures, tomorrow Aston Villa will travel to Chelsea hoping to exact revenge

The match will kick off at 19:45 on Wednesday 22nd September in Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea could not be in better form, having scored seven goals in three wins on the bounce. After beating Spurs 3-0 at the weekend, the Blues are now 11 matches unbeaten.

This will be the club’s first EFL Cup game of the season due to their success last year but they have had plenty of match experience in recent weeks.

Aston Villa has had a decent time coping with the loss of their talisman Jack Grealish to Man City. They have picked up two wins and a draw in their opening five league matches including an impressive 3-0 drubbing of Everton where newcomer Leon Bailey wowed the fans.

Villa polished off League Two side Barrow 6-0 to reach this stage of the competition with Cameron Archer as the star of the show.

It has not been long since the last time these two clubs faced each other, less than two weeks ago Chelsea managed to beat Villa 3-0 playing poorly, with Lukaku netting a brace. The Clarets do not like this fixture, having only won three of their last 18 meetings.

Score Prediction

Tuchel seems to be on fire with his selection choices and with the squad depth he has it is hard for him to go wrong. Villa’s injury concerns will have a major impact on the result of this tie as their rotation players struggle to contain Champions League stars.

Expect this game to end 3-0 (again) to Chelsea.

Leeds United travel to Championship side Fulham’s stadium tomorrow for a tough EFL Cup Round Three clash

The match kicks off at 19:45 on Tuesday 21st September in Craven Cottage.

Fulham have made a clear plan to get promoted back to the Premier League this season. They are currently in second place on goal difference after eight games. One problem is that their recent form has dipped losing two of their last three games in the league.

They reached this stage in the cup after beating Birmingham City 2-0 at the end of August.

Leeds have yet to find their true form in the Premier League. So far, they have only managed three draws, including a recent 1-1 stalemate against Newcastle on Saturday.

They reached round three after beating Crewe Alexandra 3-0 at home a month ago.

These two sides played against each other in the Premier League last season, with Leeds remaining and Fulham getting relegated. The Whites won both of the entertaining fixtures by singular goals.

Score Prediction

This will be a close game between a top-flight side in bad form and a Championship team in good form. Fulham’s home advantage could make the difference in the late stages of this match, especially when the Whites are missing a few of their starting players.

Expect this game to end 1-1 after 90 minutes with Fulham claiming the victory in extra time.
