Enable Ireland’s ‘Life With No Limits’ campaign is the annual fundraising and awareness-raising event for the organisation. This year, the campaign takes place between the 19th and 30th of September.

The campaign provides a platform for children and adults with disabilities using Enable Ireland services to share their life experiences while raising much-needed funds to support the charity’s work. This year more than ever, the charity is relying on the public’s support for their vital therapy and support services. Like many charities, the Covid-19 pandemic significantly affected Enable Ireland. In fact, they are facing a loss of €1.5million in funding due to the cancellation of fundraising events and their charity shops being closed for three months.

Enable Ireland provides services for over 9,200 children and adults with disabilities in the country. The public can contribute to these services by purchasing ‘Life With No Limits’ merchandise from one of Enable Ireland’s 21 charity shops. Otherwise, you can donate at https://www.enableireland.ie/.

2020’s Champion for the campaign is Mary Fitzgerald.

The 21-year-old para-athlete is the Irish record holder for shot put, discus, and javein. Mary was one of five students awarded a Sports Scholarship under the Quercus Talented Students’ Programme at UCC. She is now in her third year of studying Occupational Therapy.

Mary attended Enable Ireland services in Kilkenny from when she was just a few months old until she was 18. She has previously represented Ireland at para athletic events. Currently, she plans on going to the Paralympics in Tokyo in 2021. Despite her small stature, Mary lets nothing stand in her way. In her own words, “Never tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon!”.

Watch Mary tell her own unique story here.

In partnership with Enable Ireland, Homesense has produced notebooks featuring quotes from Enable Ireland service users to raise much-needed funds. You can pick up a limited edition notebook in Homesense stores in Dublin and Cork, and TK Maxx stores nationwide. For example, Mary’s inspirational quote “Believe in yourself and you can take on the world” is featured.

Furthermore, you can help the organisation by donating a bag of quality clothing or household items into any TK Maxx store nationwide as part of their Give Up Clothes For Good campaign.

Enable Ireland’s services for children with disabilities and their families cover all aspects of a child’s physical, educational, and social development from early infancy through adolescence.  For adults, they offer a range of services which include day care, training, personal development, supported and independent living, and social and leisure activities.

Please support

Steven, suffered a spinal injury in 2005 which left him using a wheelchair and crutches for life. Steven though has come out to do an amazing gesture. He has decided to cycle 5k on a real bicycle to raise the funds. As we all know the Irish Wheelchair Association and all of it’s frontline workers are doing incredible work at the moment and always have done in fact. Their assisted living workers are currently going to people’s homes, the most vulnerable in society to assist them with their daily activities, chores, and personal hygiene care. The community outreach team of the Irish Wheelchair Association is also providing support for those alone due to the current restrictions in place.

They are also delivering care packages to those who need them most, setting up Skype accounts to keep those in touch with family and friends, while also setting up virtual tea parties and online dancing lessons. Steven has decided to raise money to help the Irish Wheelchair Association which needs 2 million euros every year to keep such services running. Without this funding, frontline workers wouldn’t be able to help the elderly during this time. The COVID 19 pandemic has put a halt on various fundraising events for the Association. In addition, all of the charity shops the organization runs are shut.

Steven deserves massive recognition for doing this and we just hope you can all donate as much as you can to such a worthy cause.

Mullingar Shamrocks GAA club in Co Westmeath has raised a remarkable €10,500 for charities Heroes Aid and Pieta House.

The club raised the money through an initiative of reaching 500km, be it from walking, cycling, or running. Initially, the club was going to raise money for Do it For Dan but this fundraiser had already achieved the target set out. Therefore the club decided to raise the funds for Heroes Aid and Pieta House. Two excellent charities that do a lot for people. Heroes Aid looks after those on the frontline our nurses, doctors, and paramedics for example. Supporting them in any way possible.

Initially, the target was to clock up 500km, however, this was surpassed rather easily to 1500km. Club members, families, and supporters all got involved in the initiative and were very generous when it came to sponsoring. Westmeath footballer Kieran Gavin set up the event, while Ritchie Daly was heavily involved in the organisation aspect of things.

The funds were boosted further after Tye Adamson and offered to have their hair bleached provided the €7500 and €8000 barriers were exceeded.

It is great to see GAA clubs getting involved in such initiatives to raise funding for such worthy charities. Earlier last month Charlestown GAA raised over 6,500 for the same two charities. That story can be found here.

If you want to donate to the excellent fundraising event be sure to check out the Mullingar Shamrocks twitter page or follow the link below to donate.

Charlestown GAA in Mayo have raised an incredible 6.500 euros for charities Heroes Aid and Pieta House.

The fundraising effort which is visible on the Charlestown GAA twitter page encouraged members, supporters, players and anyone in the locality to simply run 5km, donate 5 euros and nominate 5 other people to do the run. The charities involved will help those who are currently on the frontline, be it nurses and doctors. Heroes Aid will also use the money to purchase PPE for these healthcare workers to help protect them while carrying out their jobs. Psychological support, educational and practical support will also be able to provided for healthcare workers and their families from the funds raised. A total amount of 2.500 euros has since been donated to Heroes Aid from the Charlestown GAA fundraising event.

Pieta House have also benefited greatly. The charity helps those with mental health. There vision is to replace depression, self harm and suicide, with hope, self care and acceptance. With the ever so popular Darkness Into Light run looking extremely unlikely to go ahead they now need public support as much as ever. So every 5 euro that is donated is helping someone out there.

If you want to donate be sure to check out the go fund me page here https://www.gofundme.com/f/charlestown-sarsfields-5k-challenge
