Ireland’s Men’s U20s begin their 2026 U20 Six Nations campaign on Saturday night with a demanding opening assignment against France in Perpignan — and fans will be able to watch the match live on free-to-air television.

The game takes place at Stade Aime Giral, with kick-off at 8pm Irish time, and will be shown live on the RTÉ News Channel (Sky 517) as well as streamed on RTÉ Player, ensuring easy access for supporters across Ireland.

Byrne handed starting role in back three

Head coach Andrew Browne has named a youthful but well-balanced matchday squad, captained by tighthead prop Sami Bishti, with one of the standout selections being Noah Byrne at full-back.

Byrne, a former Dublin minor footballer, continues his impressive sporting journey by starting in the Ireland back three alongside Derry Moloney and Daniel Ryan. Comfortable under the high ball and composed in broken play, Byrne’s transition from Gaelic football to elite rugby has marked him out as one of the more intriguing prospects in the squad. His ability to read space and counter-attack could be key against a typically athletic French backline.

In midfield, Johnny O’Sullivan partners James O’Leary, while Christopher Barrett and Tom Wood link up at half-back, tasked with steering Ireland around the pitch in what is expected to be a high-tempo contest.

Strong UCD influence in the pack

Ireland’s pack features a strong Leinster core, with UCD well represented. Bishti captains the side from tighthead prop, packing down alongside Max Doyle and Rian Handley in the front row. Dylan McNeice and Donnacha McGuire form the second row partnership, while the back row of Josh Neill, Billy Hayes and Diarmaid O’Connell offers a blend of physicality and mobility.

Browne has also named a well-rounded bench, with impact options available across both forwards and backs should the game open up in the final quarter.

The Ireland Men’s U20s, sponsored by PwC, have named a strong matchday squad for Friday night’s challenge match against South Africa U20s at Virgin Media Park in Cork (Kick-off 7.30pm).

Head Coach Andrew Browne has assembled an extended panel for a week-long training camp in Cork ahead of the new season, with several returning internationals included in the 23-man squad.

Leinster prop Sami Bishti will captain the side, with Charlie Molony, Tom Wood and Donnacha McGuire all back in green after impressing during last season’s U20 Six Nations campaign.

Former Dublin minor footballer and current Trinity College top try-scorer Noah Byrne starts at full-back, while the squad also features a blend of experience and exciting new talent from across the provinces.

Derry are looking for a third final appearance in seven years, Manager Damian McErlain expects a closely contested match reminiscent of their previous encounter six years ago.

“Our boys have been training very well. The two-week break allowed us to recover and prepare for the next round. It’s been good in that sense, as we managed to get some work done,” said McErlain, reflecting on their recent preparations.

Dublin, the Leinster champions, have showcased formidable form this season, triumphing over Louth, Meath, Westmeath, Offaly, and Kildare. In their quarter-final clash against Cork, Damien Fennelly’s side staged an impressive comeback, securing a 1-18 to 2-21 victory.

“Dublin is a physically strong side with a formidable midfield and athletic players throughout the team. They bring a real intensity to their game and possess a high work rate. Their manager even mentioned that they thrive on bigger pitches,” McErlain added, acknowledging the strengths of their opponents.

Noah Byrne and Luke O’Boyle have been the stand out players for Dublin all season and both will need to bring their A game if they hope to reach the final against Monaghan.

Kildare 2-08 0-19 Dublin Result

Lenny Cahill won man of the match with 7pts(4f) and Noah Byrne had another huge performance with three points from play.

In a highly anticipated match between Dublin and Kildare, Dublin emerged victorious after a thrilling encounter. Despite a competitive start, Dublin’s resilience and skill propelled them to secure a well-deserved win.

Dublin Takes Control:

Kildare’s goalkeeper, Cathal Moore, made an exceptional save, preventing Harry Curley from widening Dublin’s advantage.

Kildare’s Response:

Half-Time Adjustments: At halftime, Kildare made three strategic changes and emerged with increased urgency. They deserved more than the solitary point they scored in the opening minutes of the second half, showcasing an improved overall performance.

Dublin’s Point Accumulation:

Dublin weathered Kildare’s early onslaught and responded by scoring three consecutive points, pushing their lead to 0-12 against Kildare’s 0-4. It seemed that Dublin was on their way to securing a comfortable victory.

Kildare’s Fightback:

Had Keaveny’s effort found the net, cutting the lead to two points, the outcome of the game might have been different. However, Dublin capitalized on the opportunity, scoring three of the next four points, extending their lead by seven.

Dublin Seals the Victory:

Kildare’s Late Goal: Evan Boyle’s goal in the 57th minute briefly ignited hopes of a remarkable comeback for Kildare. However, Dublin displayed their resilience, maintaining their composure as they saw out the game effectively.

Dublin 6-15 Offaly 1-8: Dublin’s Dominance

Dublin showcased their attacking prowess in a dominant performance against Offaly. The game started strongly for Dublin, with Paddy Curry and Harry Curley scoring impressive goals. However, Offaly managed to respond with a goal from Cian Bracken, keeping themselves in the match. Despite enjoying possession, Offaly struggled to convert their chances, while Dublin continued to create high-quality opportunities. Lenny Cahill’s exceptional point-scoring ability was a standout feature of Dublin’s play. With contributions from players like Cillian Bourke, Cameron Egan, and Robert Carney, Dublin established a commanding lead by halftime.

A missed penalty by Offaly further dampened their hopes of a comeback, and Dublin went on to score more goals through Curley and Luke O’Boyle. Noah Byrne was once again on the goal scoring sheet and looks a real star of the championship for Dublin.

Shane Mullarkey’s impressive performance off the bench added to Dublin’s strength. The final scoreline of 6-15 to 1-8 reflected Dublin’s comprehensive victory.

Kildare 0-13 Meath 0-12: A Tight Battle

The clash between Kildare and Meath at Hawkfield was a closely contested affair. Meath’s Cian Commons and Kildare’s Joey Cunningham emerged as the standout performers, scoring 0-5 and 0-4 respectively. Commons played a crucial role in pushing Meath ahead early on with three points.

However, Kildare staged a strong comeback in the second and third quarters, relying on their defensive resilience and the accurate long-range kicking of goalkeeper Cathal Moore. Points from Cunningham, Donnchadh Kinch, and Evan Donnelly helped Kildare establish a narrow lead.

Meath made a late surge, closing the gap to just one point on two occasions, but Kildare managed to hold on until the final whistle, securing a hard-fought 0-13 to 0-12 victory.

The standout match of the evening saw reigning champions Dublin take on 2020/2021 winners Meath in Navan. Louth continued their strong form from their first-round defeat to Dublin with an impressive 2-13 to 0-7 victory over Westmeath. Adam Gillespie was the star of the show for Louth, scoring 1-5 including an early goal that helped them take a 1-5 to 0-4 lead at halftime. Robbie Matthews scored their second goal, and Ryan Shevlin and Liam Brannigan added some spectacular points to secure the win.

Offaly faced Laois in a fiercely contested game, with Laois leading 0-6 to 0-1 at halftime. However, Offaly fought back in the second half, with Cian Bracken, Christian McKeon, and Fionn Carney all scoring points. Fionn Carney’s goal capped off an excellent team move, and they held on to win 1-11 to 0-10.

Finally, Wicklow secured their first win of the season with a come-from-behind 0-10 to 0-7 victory over their opponents, who led 0-4 to 0-1 at halftime. Eddie Cullen and Éanna Nolan each scored two points in the second half to secure the win for Wicklow.

With Kildare, Dublin, and Wicklow still unbeaten, the next round of games promises to be exciting as the teams jostle for position ahead of the knockout stages.
