When it comes to Fantasy Football, defenders are often the hardest to score points with. With this in mind, we’ll try to find the players with a balance of attacking and defending.

5. Lewis Dunk (Brighton)

A good run of form after the restart ensured Brighton will remain in the Premier League. Dunk was a huge part of this. At the heart of the defence, Dunk contributed at both ends of the pitch. He racked up 128 points in 36 games. Brighton ended the season 9 clean sheets. Contrastingly, he had a tally and 3 goals and 3 further assists. For a central defender he can get you points many ways. Good value at £5 million. However, Brighton have some tough games early on.

4. Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa)

Jack Grealish received most of the plaudits for Villa’s survival. At the back though, Mings has grown into his role. He is becoming a Premier League journeyman. This fact will stand to him in the coming seasons. £5 million is a humble price, but Mings could only become more valuable. A threat going forward, it’s entirely possible that he’ll add to his 2 goals last season.

3. Reece James (Chelsea)

The young Chelsea right-back burst onto the scene last season. One of England’s rising stars, expect him to push on in 2020/21. For instance, he’s strongly backed to make the right-back position his own under Lampard. With the major additions to Chelsea this summer, James could add to the 2 assists he got last season. Another could buy at £5 million.

2. Matt Doherty (Tottenham)

Spurs’ new signing has been hailed as a great one. Doherty is Premier League proven and Wolves will miss him. With 4 goals and 8 assists, he’s one of the best-attacking defenders in the League. A Fantasy Football favorite, his £6 million price tag could rise during the season. Of course, his defending is just as good. He accumulated 12 clean sheets last season. Deployed correctly, Mourinho could have the best of both worlds with Doherty.

1. Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

Obviously. The youngster had 210 points last season. 29 ahead of teammate Robinson in second. Alexander-Arnold featured in all 38 League games. As a result, Fantasy Football players benefitted. 4 goals and 15 assists is a better return than most midfielders. His crossing is deadly. Furthermore, he has become something of a set-piece specialist. Overall, he’s worth the £7.5 million price tag.

Midfielders are often the most thought about picks for a fantasy footballer. Thankfully, we’re here to help. With a lot of strikers who play out wide listed as midfielders, there is a chance to beat the system here.

5. Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)

The 18-year-old exploded onto the scene last year. Used initially as a make-shift left-back, Saka often saved Arsenal going forward. Incredibly versatile, he can play anywhere and will likewise see a lot of minutes, even when not in the eleven. For just £5.5million, Saka could save you money to spend elsewhere. However, this will not come at the expense of points. With a rapid turnaround between games for Arsenal, Saka will continue to feature.

4. Kevin de Bruyne (Man City)

This is another selection of the obvious variety. At £11.5 million, he is a big investment. However, it will undoubtedly pay off. Indeed, 13 goals and 23 assists is a return worthy of a couple of players. Man City do not play in Gameweek 1 though, so have an option on the bench. A strong contender for captain.

3. Phil Foden (Man City)

Again, Man City’s creativity among midfielders is to be taken advantage of. The loss of David Silva is less of a headache for Guardiola thanks to the young Englishman. 5 goals and 2 assists last season is an impressive return considering most appearances were off the bench. For only £6.5 million this one is a steal. If you could afford to have him on a rotational policy you’ll be rewarded massively. Similarly, he won’t be around in Gameweek 1 though.

2. Hakim Ziyech (Chelsea)

Of all the new Midfielders to arrive for 20/21, Ziyech is the pick of the bunch. The Moroccon should slide straight into Lampard’s side. Expect his pinpoint passes to benefit the likes of Werner. In addition, he could chip in with goals himself. For £8million, if you plan on buying Ziyech, do it early.

1. Sadio Mané (Liverpool)

Finally, spending £12 million on a Liverpool talisman is a must. 18 goals and 12 assists added up to 221 points. Even when not on the scoresheet himself, Mané is contributing elsewhere.

Alternatives here include Aubameyang, Salah, and Sterling. Or for those on a budget, you could do worse than Adama Traoré and Diego Jota.

We look at 5 goalkeepers to choose for Fantasy Football ahead of the Premier League restart. While teams like Arsenal and Man United have competition for this position, others have the security of a set number 1.

5. Guaita (Crystal Palace)

Since his arrival in 2018, Guaita has been a revelation for the Eagles. He played in 35 of the 38 games last campaign. As a result, he finished with 137 points. One of the highest among the goalkeepers, Guaita is a safe pair of hands. At £5.0 million, he’s a very good choice.

4. Patrício (Wolves)

The Portuguese number one has been an ever-present figure in Wolves’ meteoric rise. Since joining in 2018, Patrício has made 75 appearances. Furthermore, he’s claimed 20 clean sheets. Wolves are unlucky to not have Europa League football this season. However, this may allow them to push even closer to a top 4 finish in the league. Costing £5.5 million, this is a worthy inclusion.

3. Ederson (Man City)

Ederson and Alisson are the two goalkeepers who will set you back £6 million. While it is easy to include them both in the top 5 picks, we’ve chosen one. Man City have already added Nathan Aké to their defence. Additionally there’s been links with Napoli’s Koulibaly. With relieved pressure on him, Ederson will likely surpass last season’s 133 points tally. With a lethal left foot too, he may even give you an assist or two.

2. Pickford (Everton)

Another team who are strengthening in the transfer window. With big additions outfield, Everton could play more on the front foot this year. The England international played every league game last year. A cheaper option at just £5 million, you wouldn’t be the only one to include him.

1. Pope (Burnley)

With 170 points, Pope topped last year’s Goalkeeper standings. Sean Dyche has his team set up well. They sit deep and have proved very hard to break down. As a result, Pope finished with 34 catches and 11 clean sheets. Another England hopeful, Pope will be hoping to only improve this year. He will cost you £5.5 million of your £100 million budget.
