Wayne Lordan has been the jockey to follow for the opening two days of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby meeting at The Curragh, with the Cork rider making it six wins with doubles on both Friday and Saturday.

Lordan claimed the opening two contests on Saturday with Serpentine and Buckhurst respectively.

Serpentine (5/2f) broke quickly in the Dubai Duty Free The Irish Village EBF Maiden and established an early five-length advantage, before the son of Galileo went clear to eventually win by a nine length margin for trainer Aidan O’Brien.

Buckhurst (13/8f) took the Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Jumeirah Creekside Hotel Alleged Stakes for Wayne Lordan and trainer Joseph O’Brien, in what was a disappointing field of three runners. He beat his stable companion Numerian by a length and a half with the race favourite Sir Dragonet from Ballydoyle in third.

Lordan completed his treble in the Group 2 Comer Group International Vintage Crop Stakes, doing it from the front again, as Joseph O’Brien’s Twilight Payment (15/8f) stayed on strongly to take the spoils.

Ancient Spirit (10/3) won the Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Celebration Stakes for Jessica Harrington and Shane Foley. The Listed Gain First Flier Stakes went the way of the highly-impressive Frenetic under jockey Colin Keane.

Charles O’Brien and Michael Hussey teamed up to win the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Handicap with Big Gossey (14/1), while Tipperary handler Denis Hogan’s Big Baby Bull (11/1) claimed the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire Handicap for Joey Sheridan.

Fairyhouse staged a 8-race card this afternoon where a Shane Foley double helped him move ahead of Colin Keane in the jockeys’ championship.

The opening part of Foley’s brace came when Protagonist (1/1f) claimed his second success in six days as the Michael Buckley-owned Jessica Harrington-trained French-bred took the Download the BoyleSports App Handicap.

Foley later teamed up with Charles O’Brien to take the Follow Fairyhouse On Social Media Handicap (Div II) with Rain Or Shine (8/1). The son of Zoffany came from last to first on the outside of the field to deny Pulsating (13/2) by half a length.

Today’s double for Shane Foley means the Kilkenny rider has won 19 races from 18 fixtures since the resumption of the sport earlier this month. He is now 3 wins ahead of Colin Keane in the jockeys’ title race.

Apprentice Gavin Ryan also rode a brace of winners at the Co. Meath track with both Reverberation (11/1) and Baby Power (5/2f) visiting the winners’ enclosure.

The Tipperary jockey and Reverberation won the Follow Fairyhouse On Social Media Handicap (Div I) with the James Lambe-trained five-year-old gelding achieving a four-length victory, despite having his first outing since Dundalk last March.

Ryan rode the favourite, Baby Power (5/2), in the Thanks To All Our Frontline Workers Handicap over 6 furlongs. When Ryan’s mount hit the front, the filly had to respond tenaciously to Powersville, winning by half a length for Garry Caldwell and his owner-breeder father Bernard.

Jim Bolger, who provided Gavin Ryan with his first winner in the form of Locus Standi at Dundalk in March 2017, was among the winners himself this afternoon as Bolger’s son-in-law Kevin Manning steered Slaney East (7/2) to a battling success in the 1m 2f Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden, taking a half-length victory.

Another in-form rider, Billy Lee, partnered Paddy Twomey’s Pontchateau (9/1) in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden for three-year-old colts and geldings over 10 furlongs.

Rachael Blackmore, who will ride in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby on Saturday, won the first division of the Meath Handicap, as the 3/1f Oromo took the honours for trainer Karl Thornton by a length and a quarter.

Former Galway Plate-winning jockey Kevin Coleman recorded his first winner on native soil as a trainer when Red Vermillon (22/1), under SeĂĄn Davis, took the last race of the day, the Meath Handicap (Div II).

It was a case of another day, another big Jessica Harrington winner. On Saturday, the Moone-based handler won the Group 1 Coronation Stakes with Alpine Star, today the Commonstown Stables trainer won the Leopardstown highlight, the Group 3 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Blue Wind Stakes with One Voice.

Harrington’s regular jockey, Shane Foley, was on board One Voice (16/5), who was just caught by stablemate Silence Please in a Listed race at Navan 11 days ago. The filly showed plenty determination today when stepped up into Group company, holding off a determined challenge from Aidan O’Brien’s Snow by half a length.

The Harrington/Foley combination also won the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies’ Maiden for two-year-olds on Oodnadatta (5/1). Given an enterprising ride by Foley, the daughter of Australia led from the gates and saw off all comers in the home straight, with the staying-on Minaun her closest rival, finishing a length and a half behind in second.

Recent Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas-winning trainer Ger Lyons claimed the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C&G) Maiden over 7 furlongs with Ides Of August (3/1). Colin Keane always looked confident in the saddle as the Newtown Anner Stud-owned and -bred colt got the better of the Donnacha O’Brien-trained 11/4 favourite Southern Cape by half a length.

Donnacha’s father, Aidan, was also among the winners at the South Co. Dublin track this afternoon as Numen (7/1) and SĂ©amie Heffernan recorded a highly impressive victory in the three-year-old Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C&G) Maiden over 1m 2f.

Joseph O’Brien’s Patrick Sarsfield (6/5f) was an easy winner on debut for his new yard in the TRI Equestrian Handicap under Declan McDonogh, while 20/1 Getawiggleon gave Limerick trainer David Geary his first success when guided to victory by Conor Maxwell in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden for three-year-olds.

Seven-pound apprentice Joey Sheridan rode a well-judged race on Turbine (14/1) to win the Holden Plant Rentals Handicap, and Pádraig Roche’s Lieutenant Silver (50/1) was a surprise winner of the Leopardstown Handicap under Gary Halpin.

Jockey Shane Foley was the star of the show at Naas this afternoon as Irish racing returned from its Covid-19 enforced break.

The Kilkenny rider completed a four-timer with wins on Lucky Vega (9/2), Parkers Hill (18/1), Punita Arora (22/1) and Masteroffoxhounds (9/2).

Foley began with a winner for his boss, Jessica Harrington, when Lucky Vega was a half-length winner of the 6 furlong Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C&G) Maiden.

He followed up an hour later when giving trainer Leanne Breen a winner in the Clinton Higgins Accountants Handicap (Div I) with the Airlie Stud-bred Parkers Hill.

Foley was back in the winners’ enclosure after the next race, the Listed Kuroshio At Compas Committed Stakes, when bringing up a double for Jessica Harrington’s Commonstown Stables with the victory of Punita Arora.

The day got even better for both jockey and rider when Masteroffoxhounds completed a Harrington treble and a Foley 13,218/1 four-timer when claiming the final event of the 8-race card, the 1m Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C&G) Maiden.

Owners James McAuley and Jim Gough’s £2,800 bargain purchase, Sceptical (3/1jf), was an impressive winner of the Listed Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital Woodlands Stakes for trainer Denis Hogan.

The former Godolphin horse, who prior to today had notched up three wins at Dundalk, passed his biggest test to date with flying colours, taking a comfortable three-length success under seven pound claiming Joey Sheridan.

Sheridan pushed the four-year-old Exceed And Excel gelding, Ireland’s highest rated sprinter, into the lead a furlong and a half out and easily dismissed the remainder of the 11-runner field.

“He’s a special horse and so easy to train” said winning trainer, Denis Hogan. “I’m delighted for Jim Gough and James McAuley. They picked him out. Jim’s gutted he’s not here as he loves his racing but he has a good horse and he’ll probably go to Ascot next week for the King’s Stand.”

Aidan O’Brien and SĂ©amie Heffernan had a double on the day as More Beautiful (11/4f) and Elfin Queen (13/8f) were both eye-catching winners.

More Beautiful took the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden in scintillating style as the daughter of War Front out of Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Maybe stretched away from the field in the race’s latter stages to win by an easy three and a half lengths.

Elfin Queen, a $1.2m three-year-old daughter of American Pharoah, the 2015 US Triple Crown winner, had six and a half lengths to spare over the late-finishing Aunt Bee (18/1) in the 18-runner Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden.

The second division of the Clinton Accountants Handicap went the way of Donagh O’Connor and John Levins as 14/1 shot Nordic Passage stayed on strongly in the closing stages to win for owner Hugh P Ward.

Racing on Tuesday is at Leopardstown.
