This Saturday April 14th the annual Iberian championship will take place in Madrid in the Polideportivo de la Luz in Tres Cantos.
Ladies and men’s teams from Seville, Barcelona, Valencia, La Coruña and Pamplona will be flocking to Spain´s capital in a bid to claim the Madrid leg of the tournament. From February to June the teams travel around Spanish cities where each team can obtain points from each game won. The overall Iberian Champions are announced after the final where
all points from each tournament are accumulated.
This Saturday it is expected that between 250 and 300 gaelic players including a mix of Irish, Spanish and other nationalities will turn up for the Madrid tournament. Founded in late 2003, Madrid Harps has grown steadily since that time, and currently have over 30 active members, both male and female, hailing from Spain, Ireland and beyond. Our aim is the promotion of these ancient Gaelic games amongst all the inhabitants of
Madrid, both as a form of physical exercise and as a cultural meeting point.
