Dublin’s Shane Ryan has called time on his inter county playing career.
The center forward won six Leinster SFC titles and was a football All Star in 2008. He returned to the Blues hurling panel back in 2008 and has been a mainstay on both panels since.
He has had a long running back injury and it is that which has ultimately forced him to retire. The Naomh Mearnóg clubman featured as a substitute against Tipperary in last year’s All-Ireland SHC semi-final.
Ryan has been unable to train this year due to his back complaint, so he has come to the realization that there is no point in trying to continue this year.
The 33 year-old has spoken of how his 13 year stint on Dublin panels has enriched him: “I’ll always remember the big wins but unfortunately it’s hard to forget the big losses. But it’s been a privilege to play with Dublin, I’ve been delighted to devote my life to it.”
