Torres included in Spanish Euro squad

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has been included in Spain’s final 23 man squad for the European Championship.

Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo beat Roberto Soldado in the battle to replace injured Barcelona striker David Villa with Pedro also included following an impressive season with the Catalan side.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea misses out with Vicente del Bosque including Pepe Reina and Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes as his back up’s to undisputed number one Iker Casillas while Valdes club team mate Cesc Fabregas is also included despite being ruled out for just over a week with a hamstring strain.

A knee injury meant Barcelona defender Carlos Puyol joins Villa on the sidelines while injury also means that Athletic Bilbao star Andoni Iraola also misses out.

As you would expect, the squad is heavily influenced by Real Madrid and Barcelona with no fewer than 12 of the squad coming from the top two sides in La Liga.

Despite the absence of De Gea there is still a strong premiership feel to the squad with Liverpool’s Reina joined in the 23 man list by Manchester City playmaker David Silva and Chelsea’s Juan Mata.

Spain will open the defence of their crown against Italy on June 10th.
