Scott Evans became the latest member of the Irish party travelling to the Olympic Games in London as he qualified for the badminton singles.
The 24 year-old, who is ranked eighth in Europe and 74th in the world, missed out on automatic qualification for his second Olympic games by just one ranking place. As first reserve however, Evans was first in line for a place should any national association turn down their place in London and that is exactly what has happened with confirmation coming through on Frida, 1st June, with some seven weeks to spare before the start of the tournament.
“OTHER BIG NEWS FOR TODAY – it’s OFFICIAL,” he tweeted. “I have qualified for London2012 🙂 delighted to be part of the Irish team!!!”
