The Ireland Women’s Sevens squad for the FIRA/AER European Women’s Championship in Ghent this weekend has been named by coach Jon Skurr.

The 13 strong squad will be captained by Claire Molloy and Ireland’s most capped player Lynne Cantwell is also included. This tournament is the first qualifier for the IRB Women’s Rugby World Cup Sevens which are due to be held in Moscow in 2013.

Ireland have been in a group with the Czech Republic, Poland, Israel and Belgium in Pool B. In order to qualify for the World Cup Sevens they must finish in the top two here, and in the top five in a subsequent qualifying tournament in Moscow at the end of the month.

Coach Skurr stated: “I am extremely pleased with the progress of the squad to date and while we will be very much going into the unknown in terms of the teams we are up against, I am confident that we can do the job required”.
