According to the Daily Mirror, The Lille defender has looked set for a move to the North-East of England that was until his impressive performance in the Group D European Championship opener against England.
The 26 year old, a league winner with Lille in 2011 has also been monitored by Italian side Inter Milan, but big spending Chelsea hope to lure him to Stamford Bridge.
New boss Roberto di Matteo is looking for a new right back following the departure of Jose Boswinga who was released by the club at the end of the season.
The club have already spent in excess of £40 million on Debuchy Lille’s team mate Eden Hazard and Werder Bremen star Marko Marin and despite Di Matteo also keen on Ajax star Gregory van der Wiel the club believe that the £6 million price tag for Debuchy represents better value.
Debuchy is believed to be keen on a move to the Sports Direct Arena however which would see him link up with his international team mates Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa
