Irish Olympic 2012 profile: Stephanie Reilly

Stephanie Reilly Athletics – Women’s 3,000 m Steeplechase

Ireland’s only representative at this distance, Wicklow’s Stephanie Reilly qualified in New York last June, just inside in the Olympic ‘A’ time of 9:43.0 and this is her first Olympic games.

Aged 34, the triple national champion has been in the USA since she went there on an athletics scholarship to the renowned Providence College, Rhode Island in 1997.

She has served as head coach at Bryant University, Rhode Island, following her graduation from Providence and has won many accolades over the years as an athlete and coach.

Inexperience at this level may prevent Stephanie from a podium finish but her recent European final qualifying achievement in Helsinki, where she finished 12th, proves she is capable of dealing with the big occasions.
