Cork beat Clare in Munster Minor football

Cork 2-10 Clare 0-11

Cork defeated Clare in a well contested Munster Minor Football Championship quarter final game at Pairc Ui Rinn on Wednesday night.

The visitors got off to a fast start and led by a point after 4 minutes. Cork replied through Dan MacEoin and another point from the same player made it 0-2 to 0-1 after 10minutes. Clare then drew level,before MacEoin fired a shot to the net to give the home side a three point cushion. Stephen O’Mahony then pointed to increase the Cork lead even further. Another from Cian O’Sullivan left the score at 1-4 to 0-3 after 20 minutes.

Clare then stepped up their game and hit two quick points in succession to reduce the gap to two once more. After 27 minutes, the Banner men added another,to leave the bare minimum between the teams(1-4 to 0-6). Cork’s star,Dan MacEoin then popped up to score a great point before Clare replied with a point of their own. Only a single point separated the teams at the interval(1-5 to 0-7).

Kevin Crowley extended the rebels lead after the restart and a free from Brian O’Driscoll made it a 3 point game once again. Clare had plenty of chances over the next ten minutes but couldn’t take advantage of their possession. It took them 14 minutes of the half to get on the scoresheet and leave it at 1-7 to 0-8. However, their comeback was short lived as Stephen O’Mahony scored a second Cork goal.

The visitors refused to yield and hit back with another point soon after. When the men in yellow and blue scored another point after 51 minutes,it was back to a 3 point game. Dan MacEoin pointed a free to give Cork some breathing space. The same player and substitute, Killian McIntyre increased the rebels lead to six before a late Clare point in added time left the home side with a five point win.
