Tyrone’s Joe McMahon suffers serious injury

On the opening day of the Tyrone senior Football league, county manager Mickey Harte has been rocked by news of a serious injury to Joe McMahon.

The utility player, comfortable at any position over the years, suffered a double fracture to his jaw in Omagh St Endas opening day win over Moortown. It is believed that McMahon was hit in an off the ball incident.

Mc Mahon was taken to Altnagelvin hospital for treatment but at this stage he looks certain to miss Tyrone’s Ulster Championship opener against Monaghan on June 5th.

Joe McMahon has won two All Ireland medals with Tyrone and has featured in both the backs and forwards in his inter-county career to date. In 2005 he became the first Omagh player to win an All Ireland when he was a member of the side that defeated Kerry in the final.

His younger brother, Justin, has also played for the county at senior level and was captain of the Tyrone side that won the 2006 Ulster title.
